Job Summary

The Senior Project Manager will engage in a series of research and program management activities within the Health Systems Innovation Lab (HSIL) at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health in the following projects:

(I) Global Collaborative for Changing Diabetes in Children Cohort Study

II) Health Systems Innovation Annual Hackathon

These responsibilities and activities described in the job description below require a deep understanding of critical concepts, knowledge, and experience in epidemiology, public health, biostatistics, comparative health systems, mixed methods research methodology and the design, introduction and scale-up of digital technologies in health systems. The ultimate goal of this project is to better understand the epidemiology (number of cases, risk factors, prevalence) of Type 1 diabetes in children.


Position Description

The Senior Project Manager will conduct the following research, project management, administrative, communication, and networking duties and responsibilities within an agreed timeframe with the Principal Investigator (PI) and research team for the Global collaborative for Changing Diabetes in Children Cohort Study project:

Cohort study (90%)

Research (70%)

  • Design and implement a large-scale, multi-country cohort study for Type 1 Diabetes;
  • Develop a research protocol for IRB review and approval at Harvard University and in
  • collaborating countries;
  • Submit IRB, Data User Agreements and Data Safety Agreements at Harvard University;
  • Engage and interact with senior researchers, clinicians and biostatisticians across
  • collaborating research centers;
  • Work with country research teams to understand IRB requirements, establish dates for IRB
  • submission and assist teams with preparation of required materials needed for IRB
  • submission in all research countries;
  •  Develop research papers, case studies, and reports to disseminate research findings;
  • Present research findings to diverse audiences at research symposia, academic conferences
  • and collaborative learning networks;
  • Analyze longitudinal data generated by the cohort study using quantitative and qualitative
  • research methods;
  • Lead all internal research project meetings with core research team;
  • Review all research project outputs conducted and prepare manuscripts for publication in
  • leading academic journals in public health, digital health technologies, healthcare
  • innovation and comparative health systems;
  • Develop materials required to enrol individuals and participating entities into the cohort
  • study, that will be used to conduct research activities;
  • Conduct a review of existing evidence of readiness assessments to develop an evidencebased
  • readiness assessment framework that could be used in the cohort study to sequence
  • clinic onboarding into the cohort study;

Project Management (25%)

  • Manage all collaborating partners: (I) Dure Technologies, (II) country implementing
  • teams, and (III) Novo Nordisk;
  • Track progress of all project outputs and deliverables and inform the PI when there are
  • expected delays to identify mitigation measures;
  • Manage the Harvard team by coordinating all the research team members’ involvement in
  • all project activities required to complete the project and research outputs1;
  • Support the research proposal development for subsequent iterations of the project;
  • Support spend-tracking within the project by reviewing submitted hours of research
  • assistants;

Administrative (5%)

  • Liaise with Harvard’s Global Health and Population Department administration as needed;
  • Support and engage the HSIL coordinator as needed on administrative activities related to
  • the project;
  • Provide content to the HSIL coordinator for the 2024 HSIL Annual report;
  • Provide content for the HSIL website pertaining to the Global Collaborative for Changing
  • Diabetes in Children initiative;
The Senior Project Manager will conduct the following duties and responsibilities within an
agreed timeframe with the PI and research team for the Global Collaborative for Changing
Diabetes in Children Cohort Study project (10%):

1. Design and implement the Annual HSIL Hackathon 2024;
a. Manage the Core Hackathon implementing team leading to and during the
Hackathon;
b. Convene and lead meetings with the Harvard team and collaborating entities;
c. Develop hackathon schedule;
d. Track progress of all activities required to implement the hackathon;
2. Implement the 2024 Venture Incubation Program;
a. Refresh curriculum;
b. Develop new curricular content;
c. Convene and lead sessions with the participating HSIL team;
3. Develop and implement the first iteration of the HSIL Alumni Network2;
a. Develop a phased implementation plan for the HSIL Alumni Network;
b. Implement a launch event for the HSIL Alumni Network

Expectations for completion of outputs and Advancement of HSIL as a Core Team Member
As a core and valued member of the HSIL Research Team, the Senior Program Manager will
conduct work independently and contribute towards the sound management of research progress
as part of a collaborative team through:

  • Completion of all responsibilities and outputs within the agreed timeframe;
  • Participation in weekly Research Review Meetings (Tues);
  • Participation in weekly Project Lead Check-in Meetings (Thurs);
  • Reviewing the project workplan;
  • Participation in at least 1 HSIL Management Team;
  • Coordination of activities within the research team using established lab communication
  • channels3;
  • Ensuring research meetings are focused by sharing a meeting agenda at least 1 day prior to
  • the meeting using the lab agenda template;
  • Timely communication with the PI when progress is expected to be delayed.

PLEASE NOTE: This position has a term appointment of 1 year from the date of hire with the possibility for extension.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree, or combination of education and experience may be considered
  • 5+  years related experience required

Additional Qualifications and Skills

The following job-specific skills and competencies are preferred:

  • Master's degree preferred
  • 8+ years experience
  • Experience managing international research in academic context
  • Experience working independently and as a team leader
  • Experience taking initiative and setting priorities among completing tasks/deadlines

This is a hybrid position that is based in Massachusetts. Additional details will be discussed during the interview process. All remote work must be performed within one of the Harvard Registered Payroll States, which currently includes Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Virginia, Washington, and California (CA for exempt positions only).
