Physical Requirements
To meet project requirements, lifting, pushing, or pulling of objects, climb stairs and ladders, work outdoors, wear all PPE, sitting for long periods of time, standing, walking, repetitive motion tasks, exposure to loud noises, temperature extremes, hazardous chemicals and fumes
including waste and risk of injuries from use of equipment on the job.
Shift
Monday – Friday typical working hours, for example 8:30am – 5:00pm. Some
nights and weekends shift work may also be required to meet project demands.

Position Overview: Senior Research Engineer, Process/Manufacturing Engineer on Glass Production CO2 Capture:
With assignment to DE-FE0032460, Application of Engineering Scale UK CO2 Capture to Glass Production Facility – provide process engineering/ manufacturing engineering skills to ensure that project requirements are met including reporting, milestones, deliverables, and success criteria. This is an opportunity to lead and contribute to impactful research projects, ensuring project milestones and requirements are met.
With assignment to DE-FE0032460, Application of Engineering Scale UK CO2 Capture to Glass Production Facility, provide process engineering/ manufacturing engineering skills to ensure that milestones and project requirements are met including reporting, milestones, deliverables, success criteria.
Duties and Responsibilities
Acting as Project Manager and Process Engineer/ Manufacturing Engineer
  • Provide process engineering/ manufacturing engineering to the project from beginning to end including project planning, agreements, analyses, design, fabrication, delivery, construction, start-up, operation and testing, and data collection and analysis, ensuring that process objectives and requirements are met
  • Prepare PFD on UK CO2 capture process
  • Review PI&Ds, equipment specifications, and layout provided by external project partners
  • Perform project coordination with subcontractors on techno-economic analysis and environmental, and health and safety assessment
  • Commission installed process, troubleshoot as necessary, perform acceptance testing, ensure day-to-day operational success
  • Troubleshoot process and operations with good mechanical ability, analytical methods, and root cause analysis
  • Assist PI on resource planning and execution

As the Lead Author
  • Works with PI to meet all project reporting requirements: monthly, quarterly, final, topical reports, testing and operating plans, technology maturation plans, technology gap analyses, and presentations as applicable.
  • Primary author on at least one submitted peer-reviewed journal paper.
  • Provides monthly reports and presentations.
  • Performs data reduction, in-depth analysis, and data interpretation.
  • Presents project-related papers and work at conferences.

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
Job Requirements
  • Be able to work in multiple Lexington offices with travel to Pennsylvania site and put in full days of work there.
  • Occasional shift work, as assigned, to meet project requirements.
  • Maintains knowledge of and follows all UK, group and host site policies and procedures.
  • To meet project requirements, lifting, pushing, or pulling of objects, climb stairs and ladders, work outdoors, wear all PPE, sitting for long periods of time, standing, and walking.
  • Adept at computer and engineering software use.
  • Previous experience with process equipment (heat exchangers, pumps, blowers, etc), process instrumentation (temperature, pressure, pH, flow, etc), process controls (LabView, DeltaV, PLCs)
  • Knowledge of amine-based CO2 capture solvent chemistry, speciation and physical properties.
  • Knowledge of chemical process unit operations.
  • Knowledge of advanced mathematical concepts and modelling.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally, written.
  • Has regular meeting and training attendance.
  • Accepts other responsibilities, as assigned or as needed.
  • Maintains positive interaction with colleagues and external contacts.
  • Maintains a clean, clutter-free, organized, professional work/laboratory spaces and office environments.
  • Frequent unsolicited reporting of progress and results, daily or weekly.

Preferred Education/Experience
PhD and four (4) years of related experience preferred including: experience with carbon capture; CO2 capture; hydrogen production; H2 production; engineering; higher education; process engineering; scale-up engineering; manufacturing engineering; and/or research and development
