Physical Requirements
To meet project requirements, lifting, pushing, or pulling of objects up to 40 lbs., climb stairs and ladders, work outdoors, wear all PPE, sitting for long periods of time, standing, and walking. 
Be able to work in multiple Lexington offices with travel to Eastern KY sites and put in full days of work there. Complete occasional shift work, as assigned, to meet project requirements. 
Adept at computer and engineering software use.
Shift
Monday – Friday typical working hours, for example 8:30am – 5:00pm. Some nights and weekends shift work may also be required to meet project demands.

Position Overview: Senior Research Engineer – Bench Scale Dual Looping CO2 Capture Project:
With assignment to DE-FE0032134 ensure that milestones and project requirements are met including reporting, milestones, deliverables, success criteria. 
Duties and responsibilities as project manager will include but may not be limited to:
  • Lead and participate operations and experiment during test campaigns on UK’s bench-scale post-combustion CO2 capture, ensure continuous data quality
  • Direct and work with junior engineers and technicians to define and complete process modifications to meet performance targets
  • Work with the team to find and implement solutions to problems encountered within project scope and budget. 
  • Assist PI or act as PM on resource planning and execution

Duties and responsibilities as lead author will include:
  • Works with PM to meet all project reporting requirements: monthly, quarterly, final, topical reports, testing and operating plans, technology maturation plans, technology gap analyses, and presentations.
  • Primary author on at least one submitted peer-reviewed journal paper. 
  • Provides monthly reports and presentations. 
  • Performs data reduction, in-depth analysis, and data interpretation. 
  • Presents project-related papers and work at conferences.

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
The successful candidate will maintain knowledge of and follows all UK and group policies and procedures; adept at engineering software use; have knowledge of engineering research principles, practices and protocols including amine-based CO2 capture solvent chemistry, speciation and physical properties, chemical process unit operations and advanced mathematical concepts and modelling; have the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; have regular meeting and training attendance; accept other responsibilities as assigned or as needed; maintain positive interaction with colleagues and external contacts; maintain a clean, clutter-free, organized, professional work/laboratory spaces and office environments; provide frequent unsolicited reporting of progress and results, daily or weekly.

Preferred Education/Experience
  • PhD and four (4) years of related experience preferred.
  • Previous experience with process equipment (heat exchangers, pumps, blowers, etc), process instrumentation (temperature, pressure, pH, flow, etc), process controls (LabView, DeltaV, PLCs) preferred.
  • Knowledge of/experience with: carbon capture; CO2 capture; hydrogen production; H2 production; engineering; higher education; process engineering; scale-up engineering; manufacturing engineering; research and development.
