Job Summary

We seek a highly motivated and collaborative senior data architect to join the Division of Clinical Informatics and Digital Transformation. The Division is focused on understanding how technology systems and people work together to impact healthcare processes and outcomes.

The incumbent will work closely with UCSF-based and external researchers and stakeholders to design strategies for evaluation of informatics initiatives, develop measures and metrics to assess technology use within academic and community medical center settings, and create customized analytic datasets and perform statistical analyses.

Data used to support these activities will be primarily Epic EHR data, and the incumbent is expected to be (or become) an expert in the use of the Epic System’s Clarity data warehouse, with a particular focus on the event logging data model (metadata).

The incumbent will provide data and analytic support for multiple research projects that involve novel uses of EHR metadata. Key tasks using this data will include the design and construction of datasets, design and implementation of ETL scripts to extract and link event log data with clinical information and the construction of measures and analytic datasets in support of research studies. Specifically, the applicant will use his or her quantitative skills, statistical methods and programming tools to explore and validate data to derive analytic data sets. These analytic data sets will then be used to collaboratively investigate complex problems pertaining to the use and impact of technology systems on processes in health care delivery and patient outcomes. The incumbent will also participate in the preparation of manuscripts and presentations to disseminate research.

The incumbent must have significant expertise in MS-SQL and proficiency in either Python or R. It is strongly preferred that the incumbent have experience with the Epic Systems Clarity data warehouse. Furthermore, the incumbent will be expected to regularly present findings, lead meetings and present to stakeholders with various levels of technical expertise. They must be adept at managing multiple projects and have well-developed listening and communication skills.

The incumbent is expected to become a central figure across various research teams, working with faculty investigators, clinicians, and informaticists from UCSF and across the country, as well as internal research project managers and other architects and analysts to perform high impact research. The successful applicant must thrive in a complex, team-based environment.
