Senior Research Data Analyst

The Senior Research Data Analyst will perform the following duties:

  • Develop and implement data management protocols for the C-FARM project across multiple stakeholders and research institutions.
  • Design data collection tools, maintain databases, and systems to ensure efficient and accurate data collection and storage.
  • Oversee data entry, data cleaning, data validation.
  • Collaborate with project teams and different research institutions to ensure consistency across sites.
  • Monitor data collection activities and provide training and support to PI’s, Graduate Students and Researchers
  • Create and maintain data documentation, including data usage agreements and data access permissions.
  • Ensure compliance with relative data protection, perform data audits and quality checks to identify any discrepancies.
  • Generate reports and data summaries for project stakeholders, funding agencies, farmers, and the general public.
  • Participate in project meetings and provide input on data-related matters.
  • Assist in creating farmer toolkits.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners, including OpenTEAM, to ensure appropriate data stewardship and management, and to create an opensource project database for a variety of end-user stakeholder groups, including: farmers, ranchers, policymakers, researchers, and commodity groups.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Environmental Engineering (or related field) or equivalent combination of experience/education and at least 4 years of experience in data management or analysis (preferred environmental / ecology background); skill with relational databases and applications; knowledge of programming languages such as Python, R, SQL; data visualization skills; proficiency in the use of spatial data analysis and spatial databases.  Experience with biogeochemical cycling, soil quality, soil management, geography, geomatics, data science, statistics, computer science, or a related field.

Desired Qualifications

Research experience with large data management and analysis. Understanding of laboratory/field equipment in soil sciences. GUI Software development and data summaries for project stakeholders, funding agencies, farmers, and additional stakeholders.

This position, under the direct supervision of Dr. Rattan Lal, is a Term position and will continue for the length of time for which external funding has already been secured, and extension of the appointment will occur only when full funding is in hand for future salary.
