Job Description

A Senior Research Associate position is available within the Feng Lin research group. The incumbent will focus on the synthesis and characterization of advanced battery materials. More specifically, the project will involve the synthesis of ion intercalating electrode materials for alkali metal ion batteries. The Senior Research Associate will perform electrochemistry on batteries to investigate the crystal and electronic transformations of electrode materials and their interfaces with the electrolyte. They will use advanced analytical techniques to study the transformation of battery materials under operating conditions. In particular, the project will use operando/in situ spectroscopy and imaging techniques based on synchrotron X-rays and electron microscopy. The Senior Research Associate will also mentor some junior researchers in the group.


Required Qualifications

- Ph.D. in chemistry, materials science, chemical engineering, or an appropriate related field.
- Experience in the wet-chemical and solid-state synthesis and characterization of Li or Na battery cathode materials.
- Ability to develop an appropriate work plan towards achieving research goals
- First author research publications in batteries.
- Strong work habits and the ability to work independently as well as with a research group
- Strong communication skills.
- Demonstrated experience in leading a small group of junior researchers


Preferred Qualifications

- Strong experience in synchrotron characterization of battery electrodes and electrolytes
- Presentations at conferences and/or other instances of communicating research work
