Job Description
 

The Decker Computational Genomics Group at the University of Missouri is recruiting a Senior Research Associate. The Senior Research Associate will have responsibilities of 1) data analysis, 2) manuscript preparation, 3) data collection and 4) project management, with a focus on data analysis. Main data analyses would entail genome-wide association studies, genomic prediction, and variance estimation; with opportunities to assist with evolutionary and population genomic analyses.

Decker's research group (https://deckerje.mufaculty.umsystem.edu/home ) has various research interests, combining quantitative genomics, population genomics, and evolutionary biology. All research projects use computational genomics approaches. Projects include: Genomic prediction, Mapping loci responding to selection, Genotype-by-environment interactions, Genetics of fertility, Genetics of metabolism, Population structure of cattle breeds, and Demographic modelling. Decker’s group has long-term funding supported by the Wurdack Endowment and several federal grants.

The University of Missouri is an AAU member, Carnegie R1 institution, and one of the most comprehensive land grant universities in the nation, including agriculture, veterinary medicine, human medicine, engineering, journalism and law. Excellent facilities and opportunities for collaboration across the campus, system and state are available. Office space will be in the Animal Science Research Center, which houses research and teaching facilities.

A unique attraction is the opportunity to collaborate with our nationally-recognized researchers in all animal science disciplines, including genetics, reproduction, and nutrition. Further, the Decker Genomics Group has an active collaboration with Gui DeSouza in the College of Engineering working on robotic vision of cattle. The University of Missouri is a leader in genomic research, with internationally recognized researchers in genome assembly, genome annotation, comparative genomics, whole-genome sequence analysis, functional genomics, population genomics, genome-wide association analysis, genomic prediction, and novel trait development.


Qualifications
 

Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. in animal science, genetics, statistics or closely related field by the time of appointment .


Candidates will be evaluated on:

1) data analysis

2) manuscript preparation

3) data collection

4) project management

The primary focus of the evaluation will focus on data analysis.
