Job Description Summary:
The primary work will be overall laboratory management of the Yu laboratory, and participation in projects that require a high degree of skill and expertise in cancer biology; molecular biology and genomics; cell biology and imaging; immunohistochemistry, protein biochemistry, and proteomics, while supervising and assisting junior trainees in the laboratory.

Required Qualifications
Education: PhD in Cancer Research or related field.
Work Experience:
10 years experience in cancer research, with project management and grant facilitation.
Strong communication as evidence by application materials.
Preferred Qualifications
Work Experience:
Research experience with molecular, cell biology and proteomic data, cancer model and pathology specimens.
Grant reporting, and first author publication of both primary research and review articles.
Skills:
Strong communication skills, particularly with the scientific community.
Interpersonal and organization skills
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Attention to detail.
Job Duties Outlined:
Co-direct cancer-related projects within the research program.
Directly assists the Principal Investigator in maintaining the operation of the laboratory group’s research program (including certification, funding, material supply and personnel).
Coordinates and interfaces with collaborating research groups at KUMC and abroad.
Ensures compliance, renewal and amendments of Biohazard, Human Subjects, Animal Care and other Certificates issued to the Principal Investigator.
Assists in hiring, supervision, training and management of students and new employees.
Designs, performs and reports molecular and cellular laboratory work where delegation to other laboratory personnel is not appropriate.
Maintain a current Laboratory Notebook, documenting all calculations, work, experiments, and other pertinent research information.
Perform other duties as assigned by direct supervisor and other research staff.
Compliance: Attend and maintain compliance on all orientation and training sessions designated by the University and the Microbiology Department, understand and follow IACUC, animal, and biosafety protocols, and attend regular lab meetings.

Compensation Statement:
The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
