Job Description Summary:
The Department of Epidemiology at the Milken Institute School of Public Health at the George Washington University is seeking a Senior Research Associate to assist the department in conducting an NIH-funded randomized controlled trial with participants in a longitudinal HIV cohort study, the DC Cohort. This study will test the efficacy of a health platform (PositiveLinks) to improve retention in care and viral suppression among a cohort of persons living with HIV and receiving care at 12 clinical sites in Washington, DC. The study will be conducted in partnership with collaborators at the University of Virginia and numerous clinical providers in Washington, DC. The Senior Research Associate will lead the day-to-day management of the study and assist the Principal Investigators with the overall implementation, operation, and management of the study. This experienced researcher carries out research/development activities by using quantitative and qualitative methods to collect, analyze, and report data activities. Using a wide degree of creativity and latitude, the core responsibilities of this position are to make detailed observations, analyze data, and interpret results with limited guidance from the Principal Investigators. The Senior Research Associate role is familiar with a variety of field concepts, practices, and procedures and can perform a variety of research tasks. This position reports to the PI.
Responsibilities include:
  • Assist study Principal Investigators with leading day-to-day study coordination and management.
  • Prepare and submit regulatory documents.
  • Work closely with the UVA PositiveLinks team to master features, reporting, and implementation of PositiveLinks.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for the Site RAs, including training on informed consenting, data entry, and serving as the local PositiveLinks Champion.
  • Work with the collaborating sites to identify potential participants and recruit and retain participants for the interviews, focus groups, and clinical trials.
  • Collaborate with research staff at the DC Cohort sites to field technical and non-technical requests/problems and facilitate resolutions.
  • Perform regular data quality checks with the clinical sites to ensure protocol compliance and assist in technical issues.
  • Perform ad hoc analyses of study data.
  • Coordinate and conduct the formative data collection, survey design, and administration, efficacy trial, and implementation science data collection.
  • Conduct qualitative and quantitative data collection, management, cleaning, and analysis, including the development of the REDCap databases and merging of DC Cohort and clinical trials data.
  • Contribute to the development of manuscripts generated from the study findings, including conducting literature reviews and writing and editing manuscripts.
  • Maintain all study documents, including recruitment and outreach materials, database management and study data quality activities, and documentation of major study decisions.

Minimum Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will hold a master’s degree in a related discipline and 3 years of direct experience in the field. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.
Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications:
This job is primarily in a standard office environment but travel to clinics that participate in the DC Cohort study is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of clinical aspects of HIV disease
  • Experience with clinical trials or efficacy trial conduct
  • Experience with regulatory issues in research
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Able to master Android and iOS mobile platforms
Typical Hiring Range Commensurate with Experience.
