Description of Work Unit | The Microbiology, Immunology and Pathology (MIP) Department is comprised of over 400 individuals who share a common passion for solving some of the most important human and animal health problems today. Research programs include those related to mycobacteria, retroviruses, prions, and arthropod-borne infectious diseases, as well as the diagnostic investigation of naturally-occurring animal diseases. A leader in education, MIP provides the only microbiology undergraduate degree program in Colorado, a graduate program that provides training in a number of cutting-edge disciplines, and several specialized veterinary residency training programs. |
Position Summary | CSU FCF Senior Research Associate. This position will have complete oversight of daily operations of the flow cytometry core lab including operation and troubleshooting of flow cytometric equipment, ordering, equipment purchases, hazardous waste, PCARD purchases, with a special focus on user training for assay design, implementation and optimization for all instruments in the flow cytometry core. In addition, this position will be the primary operator of the FACSAria III cell sorter. This position will be required to perform daily startup, QC, troubleshooting and work to provide first class cell sorting services to students, faculty and staff at CSU and scientists across northern Colorado and Southern Wyoming. This position will require extensive interaction with CSU CORES administration including the preparation of proposal renewals, yearly reports and other exercises and reports as deemed necessary by CSU CORES administration. |
Required Job Qualifications | - Graduate degree in Biomedical Sciences or related field - 6 years of flow cytometry and cell sorting experience required. - Ability to troubleshoot and maintain maintenance on machines, laser alignments, PMT/preamp swaps, tubing replacement, and others. |
Preferred Job Qualifications | - Prefer spectral flow cytometry application and analysis. Experience with BD and Cytek machines highly desired. - Excellent written, verbal and independent decision-making skills. Administrative experience with iLabs or other scheduling softwares. |

Direct and mentor work-study employees in daily tasks related to the operation of a flow cytometry core lab. Interface with users for effective scheduling/use of the instrumentation in the flow cytometry core lab. Help users who have questions or problems during the operation of the flow cytometric equipment. |
