Georgetown University’s Center for Global Health Science and Security conducts original research to help decision makers worldwide build sustainable capacities to prevent, detect, respond to public health emergencies, and to provide policymakers, donors, and researchers with a high-quality evidence base to make decisions that promote health security.

Job Overview

The Senior Research Associate primarily supports the implementation of the Center's International Disease and Events Analysis (GHSIDEA) project, but may assist on other projects as discussed with the Center Director. They also work closely with project investigators to contribute to a diverse portfolio relating to global health and health security.

They also contribute in a conventional research associate role, with duties that include but are not limited to conducting research; assisting in data collection; assisting in the analysis of research findings; assisting in reporting research findings; and providing administrative support where appropriate or assigned. 

Work Interactions and Work Mode Designation

Reporting to the Center Director, the Senior Research Associate works collaboratively - and at times taking direction from - other Center faculty, senior research staff, and administrative staff. In turn, they may also direct more junior staff in research tasks.

This position has been designated as Hybrid. Please note that work mode designations are regularly reviewed in order to meet the evolving needs of the University.  Such review may necessitate a change to a position’s mode of work designation. Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in epidemiology, public health, health economics, health policy, public policy, data analytics, project management, or related discipline - preference for a Master’s degree in same
  • 3 to 5 years of professional work experience in a research and/or research coordinator role
  • Demonstrable interest in global health and health security
  • Ability to prioritize, focus and achieve results in a fast paced and complex environment
  • Ability to initiate and complete tasks under tight deadlines and changing priorities, while maintaining attention to results and detail
  • Ability to professionally and effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders and work in order to advance the Center’s mission
  • Ability to work independently and in collaboration with a team
  • Excellent research and writing skills to include conducting literature reviews, data extraction and contributing to research publications

Preferred qualifications

  • Foreign language proficiency
  • Proficiency with data analysis, data visualization, database management
