This temporary appointment can be concluded prior to the stated temporary appointment end date normally with a two-week notice period. Continuation of this temporary appointment is contingent upon funding.

Monday through Thursday; from 8:00am to 5:00pm

Anticipated Hiring Range:

$6,489.00 Per Month at Part-Time (.90) 

$7,210.00 Per Month at Full-Time (1.0)

Salary is commensurate with experience.

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the Senior Research Associate (SRA) serves in an administrative, research and coordination capacity, to execute studies of substantial complexity, including managing research procedures, building and maintaining systems, coordinating activities between the PI, UCSF, and community organizations, providing leadership in managing the project with collaborators across settings. Together with the PI, the SRA will lead study activities across intervention phases from IRB to study promotion, participant recruitment and data collection. This position is responsible for multiple areas of study including: intervention management, budget management and reporting, training of facilitators, operational effectiveness, and incentive delivery, dissemination of scientific findings to a wide range of stakeholders including the scientific community and community members. This new position requires a high level of creativity, flexibility, strategic and systems thinking, as well as scientific rigor.

Position Information

Administer and Manage the Hermanos de Luna Y Sol

  • Plan and develop systems to manage all aspects of the NEW grant-funded study by establishing procedures, practices, and programmatic components to meet study timelines as planned.
  • Develop a detailed 5-year plan for the overall study with the research team.
  • Craft an organizational system to support data collection, recording, analyses, compliance, and obligations for grant reporting.
  • Oversee all phases of the research, including processes , assessments and data collection pertaining to study participants. Meet with study team weekly to assess progress on study goals.
  • Maintain records of all study aspects including meeting notes, compliance, and obligations for grant reports.
  • Responsible for coordinating recruitment/application/selection/screening of study participants.
  • Oversee the disbursement participant incentives after study participation.
  • Oversee and provide feedback for evaluation of other research staff, such as student research assistants.
  • Work collaboratively with the research team on the development of study materials, including design of promotional materials, intervention, manuals for intervention facilitation, review of instruments and edit for accuracy and clarity.
  • Manage and coordinate collaboration with other stakeholders including UCSF and community agencies (subaward budgets over 5 years)
  • Facilitate trainings, develop modules for intervention implementation, and coordinate trainings with collaborators
  • Participate and work collaboratively with on-going research partners with public and community entities: UCSF, University of Alabama, La Familia and Chicago Collaborative, to disseminate information about the study findings.
  • Work with PI and collaborators and admin to address issues that may intervention implementation, and evaluation

Conduct Research and Evaluation 

  • Facilitate, support and help gather study participant outcome data (pre and post intervention)
  • Support the research team in crafting findings, creating tables and figures, and assist in the development of manuscripts for publication.
  • Serve as Liaison between San Francisco State University and the funding agency, regarding the operation, management of the project.
  • Prepare and timely submit project reports to the NIH.
  • Attend meetings with the funder as required

Fiscal Management 

  • Develop budget plans, manage and keep track of budget and work with PI to provide up to date information to project expenses in future years on the grant
  • Manage expenditures for training, community events and intervention implementation, oversee budgetary spending
  • Liaison with UCSF, La Familia, Chicago Collaborative and San Francisco State University OSRP staff for coordination of budgetary planning and management collaboration

Minimum Qualifications

  • Comprehensive knowledge of the principles of management and organization; and of administrative survey principles and techniques and skill in their applications; thorough knowledge of the subject area of assignment.
  • Ability to plan, organize, conduct and participate in major administrative and analytical studies; ability to relate the overall study objectives to the research team, community participants, the funder and scientific community
  • Ability to see the interrelationships within and among the various stakeholders, the research team and collaborators– and strategically work with all units: ORSP, Public Health Department, UCSF, and community agencies.
  • Ability to approach problems objectively, analytically and rigorously; ability to present findings and recommendations clearly and diplomatically and to work with and reconcile (when needed) various divergent points of view
  • Ability to utilize complex statistical and various analytical research methods; ability to draw conclusions and develop recommendations
  • Skilled at preparing annual written reports
  • Ability to develop and maintain high level contacts including the leading of meetings and negotiations with all constituencies including ORSP.
  • Five years of progressively responsible administrative or professional experience which demonstrates ability to conduct complex analyses of problems in assigned functional areas.

OR

  • The rank of post doctoral fellow or higher in a four-year college or university and demonstrated experience in research or special study work may be substituted for up to four years of experience.

AND

Education:

  • Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university, Masters Degree in Public health or related field

Preferred Qualifications

  • Administrative skills in Microsoft office, endnote, and technology platforms enabling tracking data, excel, PowerPoint/Google slides
  • Experience in education curriculum and seminars, experience in supervision and advising, experience in developing and overseeing the implementation of various programs design for educational purposes.
  • Knowledge of budget management and coordination
  • Effectively use computers and related applications
  • Ability to identify, plan, establish, implement, and evaluate programs and practices; focused thinker that can accomplish work independently, collaboratively, and effectively; interpersonal and intercultural abilities; sensitivities to work in a team-oriented school.
  • Ability to interact and collaborate effectively and professionally with university, community, and agency personnel; supervisory experience in an administrative role
  • Adheres to and understands FERPA and Family Code confidentiality laws and regulations.
  • Applicants should demonstrate an awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population as might have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching and other comparable experience.
  • Grants management experience in higher education settings
  • Knowledge of the intersection of public health prevention sciences and education with diverse, multilingual communities
  • 4-5 years administrative and research experience; prior supervisory and/or experience in educational, and research settings
