Summary of Duties

This position supports, designs and conducts experimental tests and procedures in the Center for Electron Microscopy and Analysis (CEMAS); oversees and performs analysis and presentations of experimental laboratory data; prepares research papers for presentations and publications; is responsible for coordination, operation, and upkeep of scanning electron microscopes and focused ion beam microscopes, in conjunction with CEMAS facility leaders; prepares research progress reports, including summarizing test results on assigned research projects; participates in staff discussions and attends meetings and conferences to stay up-to-date on specific research practices; serves as a subject expert and assists internal and external users with the planning, development, and execution of their research projects to achieve desired goals; assists with teaching, training and overseeing users microscopy methods and how to operate CEMAS equipment; helps troubleshoot experiments and assists in sample preparation and interpretation; serving as a technical expert, develops and assists in the instruction of the Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) course to improve users research and experience.

Required Qualifications

Doctorate (Academic) in materials science & engineering or an equivalent combination of education and experience; extensive experience in an engineering research capacity; knowledge of advanced characterization techniques, including scanning electron microscopy, focused ion beam microscopy, various imaging nodes and associate software; proficiency in the maintenance and use of advanced materials processing techniques; sample preparation of hard and soft materials for SEM, FIB and TEM; experience in a progressively responsible administrative capacity; excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to work in a diverse team environment; ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Desired Qualifications

Experience and knowledge of Transmission Electron Microscopy, Dual-Beam Focused Ion Beam, Energy Dispersive X-Ray Spectroscopy, Electron Backscatter Diffraction and associated software; extensive knowledge of vacuum systems; background in Metallurgical Engineering.

Target Salary $60,000.00 - $70,000.00 Annually
