Job Overview

The Department of Cancer Biology at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine is seeking a self-motivated Research Assistant to join the new laboratory of Dr. Amanda Wasylishen. This position will assist research on epigenetic dysregulation in pancreatic diseases including cancer and pancreatitis. Responsibilities will include: initial lab set-up, assisting with the daily running of the laboratory, and making independent contributions to projects and studies based on professional training or functional experience. This position will support the University’s mission and commitment to excellence and diversity in our students, faculty, staff and all our activities. 
 


Essential Functions
  • Ordering and organizing laboratory supplies and records
  • Independently perform experiments and records data according to research protocols.
  • May maintain and oversee animal colony management and animal husbandry.
  • Solve problems using combined research knowledge.
  • Analyze research results. Interpret data and assist in judging validity of data.
  • Organize data search and analysis procedures.
  • Assist in establishing test controls, criteria and research standards.
  • Assist with the design of complex data processing systems to analyze research data.
  • Accomplish assigned results for projects/studies, or for significant aspects of larger, complex assignments.
  • Serve as seasoned professional.
  • May provide direct and/or indirect supervision to exempt and non-exempt staff (i.e., hiring/firing, performance evaluations, disciplinary action, approve time off, etc.).

Required Education
  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Seven (7) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement.

Required Experience
  • Three (3) years of relevant experience.
  • Additional related work experience may be required depending on field or discipline.

Additional Qualifications Considered

Previous experience with genetically engineered mouse models, mammalian cell culture, immunohistochemistry and/or nucleic acid purification.
