Senior Radio Programmer/Announcer – WUOT FM

Full-Time, Non-exempt, Market Range 07

The University of Tennessee, Knoxville invites applications for a Senior Radio Programmer/Announcer in WUOT FM, the public radio station.

Screening of applicants will begin immediately and will continue until the position has been filled. The Position: The Senior Radio Programmer/Announcer serves as the on-air board operator and producer/host of WUOT’s weekday afternoon classical music program, broadcast from 1 to 4pm. This senior radio producer/announcer is responsible for music selection and an accessible on-air hosting style to reach and expand WUOT’s classical music audience. This position will conduct interviews with local classical musicians and arts organizations and will participate in social media and website content as appropriate.

 



Qualifications

 

The Senior Radio Programmer/Announcer is expected to:

  • Host a daily program that is deeply connected to music, arts, and culture in East Tennessee with a focus on WUOT’s target audience.
  • Regularly create, curate, and post music and programming content and engage audiences on WUOT’s digital and social platforms.
  • Work closely with the Music Director to refresh the musical identity for WUOT in a manner that deepens loyalty and engagement of existing listeners, attracts new audiences, and increases station revenue.
  • Regularly represent WUOT in the local music community, with arts organizations, at station promotional events and events
  • Host studio performances and interviews for broadcast and digital platforms.
  • Work with fundraising and corporate support teams to increase revenue for WUOT, and participate in membership drives, major donor events and other fundraising activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

To be successful in this role, candidates are required to possess:

  • Bachelor's degree in broadcasting, communications, humanities, music, or related field at time of hire.
  • Two or more years of on-air radio experience. An equivalent combination of classical music education, performance, and public speaking experience may be considered.
  • Experience in or exposure to fundraising.
  • Ability to present a variety of classical music genres in an engaging and accessible manner.
  • Ability to learn and operate various broadcast equipment, including production and automation systems.
  • Ability to have a relaxed and engaging on-air presence.
  • Knowledge of interesting and engaging information of classical music periods, composers, major works, and artists.
  • Skilled in radio programming techniques and audience research.
  • Ability to serve as strong team player, effectively working with diverse group of unit and station colleagues to achieve collective goals.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, especially when interacting with listeners in a professional manner.
  • Ability to confidently and comfortably “pitch” during station on-air fundraisers and record/voice variety of content, including promos, underwriting credits, station appeals, etc.

Our ideal candidate has:

  • Master’s degree in any field.
  • Social media experience, multimedia production, and music programming.
  • Experience with ENCO.
  • Experience with Adobe Audition.
  • Experience with Music Master.
  • Familiarity and comfort with foreign languages (especially French, Italian, and German).
  • Ability to work other assigned shifts as needed.
  • Knowledge of FCC guidelines and requirements.
  • Professional social media presence.
