POSITION PURPOSE
Design and manage multiple print and electronic media projects for a large, full-service graphic communications department. Responsible for graphic design, brand adherence, project management, and accurate hourly design charges during the creation of a wide range of informational, promotional and recruitment print and electronic communication projects. This position provides graphic design services to departments in the University of Washington Academy and UW Medicine.
In partnership with C2 account managers, develops thorough print specifications and production instructions. As part of the creative services team, provides design support to C2 web developers in the construction of websites.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide design consultation, intake and planning/advising
Create design work for print and web
• Support the Creative Communication’s mission by providing original graphic design for projects within approved brand guidelines. Projects include but are not limited to print collateral (brochures, signage, print ads, etc.); designing posts for social media, swag, and event materials; help determine design directions and style; help oversee the creative process from concept to completion.
• Provide design for web as needed, including wireframes, prototypes, mockups, UI design, image assets, and icons for use within various content management systems, including WordPress and Drupal. Responsibilities include developing and implementing project plans, individual components, and timelines. Manage the visual design process by ensuring adherence to schedules, project specifications, and budget limitations. Advise clients and partners on the practical applications of design and production techniques as tools of visual communications.
• Apply advanced design and production knowledge in: typography, electronic page layout; work with photography, preparing layouts and electronic files, reviewing proofs, specifying papers, inks and other special techniques.
• Coordinate the design of departmental/institutional identity programs.
• Help direct creative activities of non-institutional staff-designers, illustrators, photographers and calligraphers.
• Thoroughly checks projects for completeness of instructions and digital files before sending for electronic prepress.
Project Management
Research and train in current design trends and software applications
Other duties as assigned
Participate in Lean huddles and Lean practices.
Train and cross train staff within UW Finance.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design or related field and two years of experience in graphic design. Equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills have been acquired may substitute for degree.
Thorough knowledge of typography and printing/graphic arts processes is required.
Expertise on a Macintosh using current versions of the Adobe suite is required.
Must demonstrate strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
Demonstrated experience in working on diverse groups and teams; respects, values, and contributes to UW Finance and UW’s commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equity.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
