The mission of University Advancement is to secure support for NC State University in terms of dollars, service and engagement by delivering an integrated program of development, alumni relations, communications and marketing, and advancement services. Our objective is to build deep and long-term relationships with alumni and other stakeholders and partners that will ensure increased support to NC State in the future.
The Office of Prospect Development is a sub-unit of Advancement Services, one of four departments managed by University Advancement (UA), and is charged with conducting various research-related and moves-management activities to assist the university’s advancement and development staff secure the private funding necessary to continue the university’s development and growth. Its functions primarily support the part of UA’s mission related to raising money from private sources, managing the collection of private gifts for the university and managing an effective alumni and development database and gift system.
Essential Job Duties
The primary purpose of the Senior Prospect Development Analyst position (focused on Research) is to conduct public information research activities on known and potential donor prospects for the university.
Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Use public information resources to identify new donor prospects and work with gift officers to develop and manage a continuous pool of potential donor prospects.
  • Maintain complete, accurate, up-to-date records of information on donors/prospective donors, and of work processes and products.
  • Maintain and improve related professional knowledge.
  • Actively participate in projects designed to improve the office’s effectiveness, efficiency and ability to meet its primary objectives.
  • Develop liaison relationships with our college and unit partners to facilitate effective research deliverables, increase suspect lead activity, and align with that particular college’s goals and initiatives.
  • Manage recurring and ad hoc research projects.
  • Coach other researchers on the team and manage select research tools.
  • May also hire, train and manage temporary workers, in addition to performing all of the duties of a Prospect Development (Research) Analyst.
Other Responsibilities
  • Actively maintain/improve professional knowledge and participate in related training sessions
  • Participate in planned and ad-hoc activities designed to improve team and office effectiveness and efficiency

Qualifications


Minimum Experience/Education
Bachelor’s degree and one year of experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
 
All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Other Required Qualifications
  • Must be proficient in MS Office applications
  • Proficiency in using various Internet search techniques
  • Excellent reasoning, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Skilled at managing time and multiple projects simultaneously
  • Skilled at managing available resources
  • Skilled writer, with good organizational skills and the ability to write clearly and concisely, synthesizing material from multiple sources in a coherent and accurate presentation
  • Good communication and listening skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous Prospect Research experience, preferably in a higher education setting
  • Proficiency in using subscription information services especially those commonly used in Prospect Research
  • Knowledge of NC State University
  • Experience in fund raising or fund raising support (preferably higher education fund raising)
  • Knowledge of software used for fund raising/alumni data and an understanding of information management in a database structure (esp. Ellucian’s Advance)
  • Knowledge of public information sources/resources
  • Supervisory experience
  • Experience training others
