Job Description:

The Senior Project Manager is responsible for successfully developing and managing various mid to large-scale complex and often multi-disciplinary projects under the Dean of the Faculty (DOF)  from implementation to completion to advance Brown’s strategic plan to grow its research enterprise. The person in this role will work closely with stakeholders in defining the scope, key performance parameters, schedule, budget, and management plan for mid-scale to large projects, will work with teams to implement project management and execution plans to ensure milestones are completed on time and budget, and will advise and contribute to the development of University project budget and management processes and procedures.

The responsibilities are broad, encompassing various administrative, academic, and research activities. They include drafting and editing proposals for large grants, risk, and budgetary assessment, overseeing research reporting, managing budgets, leading meetings to communicate research findings with funding agencies and stakeholders, and troubleshooting technological problems or issues with team members to ensure project requirements are met.

The position is initially for a duration of 2 years, with annual renewals subject to satisfactory work performance. After the initial 2-year period, the potential for renewal is contingent upon the availability of funding.

This position is hybrid-eligible.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree (required) with 5-7 years of experience in grant project management, preferably in an academic/ research environment. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) preferred
  • Strong knowledge of financial management, including budget planning, monitoring, and reporting for federally funded projects.
  • Experience and expertise in project management tools, particularly across multiple constituents and organizations with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.  Must quickly establish and maintain a solid working relationship with various customers and constituents, including senior administration and faculty.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain project budgets and schedules for federally-funded projects and plan and manage projects to achieve deadlines and objectives.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including writing and delivering clear and effective reports and presentations to various audiences, both internal and external.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.  Proven ability to independently and effectively manage and resolve issues under various circumstances and urgency, with insight, diplomacy, and sensitivity, as well as coordinate and direct a multi-disciplined team that includes managers and peers.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications, Google Suite applications, and/or project management software. Experience with Workday and COEUS is preferred.
  • Initiative and judgment to solve problems independently.
  • Ability to work independently and be a strong team member.
  • Ability to research, analyze, and summarize findings.
  • Federal grant administration experience preferred.
  • Possesses the ability to support and promote a diverse and inclusive campus community.
