Required Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of related experience


Preferred Qualifications:
•PhD in a field related to academic writing or graduate education
•Demonstrated ability to effectively and efficiently manage up and across a program, including proactive approaches to project management, problem-solving, and project organization
•Expertise in graduate research practices, dissertation/thesis/creative component writing and formatting
•Experience in electronic thesis/dissertation administration.
Experience and/or training in graduate fellowship advising, generative artificial intelligence, communication program development and administration, copyright, authorship, text reuse, plagiarism, and academic conduct/misconduct, research integrity/ethics, and digital accessibility.
•Knowledge of advanced technologies (e.g., Latex, iThenticate, automated writing evaluation tools)


Job Description:

The CCE is seeking to fill the position of Senior Specialist for Graduate Scholarly Activities.

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an on-going basis without sponsorship. 

Summary

Oversees policy compliance related to graduate scholarly and creative activities. Manages specialized graduate and postdoc support programs (Graduate Competitive Funding and Thesis/Dissertation Writing) provided through the Center for Communication Excellence of the Graduate College. Analyzes, designs, develops, and implements materials, resources, and technologies for scholarly and creative activities.

Example of Duties

• Develops, updates, and oversees the implementation of policies and guidelines for dissertation/thesis/creative component submission.

• Manages graduate support and advisory programs to ensure that implementation and prescribed activities are carried out in accordance with the objectives of the Graduate College.

• Leads or coordinates projects from initiation through completion, including project planning, resourcing, and staffing for assigned program.

• Oversees the development and implementation of strategies for effective programming and training materials that encompass the life cycle of graduate students.

• Develops initiatives and carries out activities to promote the programs and achieve their objectives.

• Assesses needs, gathers data, conducts program evaluation, and prepares reports on the effectiveness of services.

• Acts as a representative and liaison to graduate student groups, faculty, staff, and university units.

• May secure funding as needed.
Level Guidelines
• Senior-level position possessing high-level professional and/or technical skills working independently under minimal supervision to support ISU’s mission and department or work unit goals
• Applies senior-level professional knowledge and expertise to work requiring greater latitude
• Solves moderately complex problems and regularly exercises judgment to determine appropriate action
• Regularly exercises judgment to resolve problems and determine appropriate action on a broad set of issue and problems. May provide recommendations regarding problems/issues outside the bounds of defined procedures and practices
• Responds to complicated inquiries, provides training, and provides direction to lower-level staff
• May provide supervision for one to two other staff (i.e., leads a small work team)
• May lead projects for which well-defined practices and procedures may not exist
• Provides guidance to students
