Position Summary:

Under the leadership of the Directors of the UTHealth Institute for Implementation Science and the Director of the Center for Health Promotion and Prevention Research, the Senior Program Manager-Research will work with Directors to develop, plan, and maintain the research agenda for the Center. The position functions in a leadership capacity in both the CHPPR and the Institute and will provide direct supervision to the Directors program managers and research coordinators. The Senior Program Manager-Research will be responsible for coordinating grant submissions, establishing community and academic partnerships for research and developing implementation “collaboratories”.

Work involves supervising professional staff members and ensuring collaboration, coordination, and integration of Institute and Center activities. Activities include overseeing the preparation of grant applications and budgets; monitors budgets and expenditures. Provides direction and guidance on Center activities and grants. Consults with the Institute Directors, CHPPR Director, and the Center Administrator, on research and evaluation projects. Works with considerable latitude for use of initiative and independent judgment.

 

Position Key Accountabilities:

  • Manages the research agenda for the area. Oversees overall operations of multiple research programs.
  • Sets deadlines, assigns responsibilities, monitors the progress of projects, provides supervision and guidance to the research personnel, research nurses and administrative staff.
  • Manages partnerships between clinicians and research scientist, internal and external to the University.
  • Establishes collaborations with  arrange of community and healthcare partners.
  • Informs upper management of key activities.
  • Assists in grant proposals to both private foundations and governmental agencies. May work closely with the Office of Sponsored Projects on the submission of grants.
  • May conduct or supervise training related to research for internal, hospital, and community groups.
  • Develops on-going strategic plans for the area.
  • Communicates with community and professionals to share objectives and outcomes. Prepares/makes oral presentations at professional meetings. May also participate in committees as deemed appropriate for the department.
  • Provides consultative expertise regarding policy and/or regulatory questions.
  • Gives input for direct reports in regards to: recruiting and selection, hiring and termination, training, professional development, mentoring, counseling, performance evaluations, and salary planning.
  • Stays abreast of new and updated protocols for the Institute and Center.
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Certification/Skills:

    Depending on research may require advanced level grant writing skills.
     

    Minimum Education:

    Bachelor’s degree in science or a health administration related field.

     

    Minimum Experience:

    Seven years of applicable experience.
    May substitute required experience with equivalent years of education beyond the minimum education requirement.

     

    Physical Requirements:

    Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects. 
    This position may include work involving potentially hazardous chemical, biological or radioactive agents.
