SCHOOL/UNIT DESCRIPTION:
The Stanford Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence (HAI) is a newly formed and rapidly growing institute within the Dean of Research. As an independent institute, HAI’s mission is to advance AI research, education, policy and practice to improve the human condition. The education programming at the Stanford Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence works empower emerging leaders and decision-makers with cutting edge research and enable learners to create AI responsibly while understanding the opportunities. The Senior Program Manager, Education will work closely with HAI faculty and staff leadership to build effective curriculum and resources that meet this overarching goal.

POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Director of Research Program, the Senior Program Manager, Education will work closely with HAI faculty and staff leadership to build effective curriculum and resources that meet this overarching goal. Reporting to the Director of Research Programs, the Senior Program Manager, Education will lead the strategic planning and operations of HAI’s growing education portfolio, including Professional Education (online and in-person), K12 education and post-secondary offerings– including conceptualization, development, implementation, monitoring and continuous improvement.
Overall, the goal of the HAI education programming is to empower emerging leaders and decision-makers with cutting edge human-centered AI research and enable learners to create AI responsibly while understanding the opportunities. The Senior Program Manager, Education will work closely with HAI faculty and staff leadership to build effective curriculum and resources that meet this overarching goal.
Additionally, this position will advise educators across Stanford and beyond in matters related to HAI’s educational interests, including designing new offerings and/or incorporating current HAI offerings into various types of programming, working in collaboration with key stakeholders throughout.
We are hiring one (1) full time (100% FTE), benefits-eligible, fixed term research associate for two (2) years. Although not guaranteed, there will be potential for an extension/renewal following the initial 2 years contingent upon additional funding commitments and/or programmatic needs.
This position will be based on the Stanford campus and will be considered for an option of telecommuting (hybrid of working on-site and off-site), subject to the operational need.


CORE DUTIES:

    • Lead strategic planning and analysis for complex functions or programs with significant business, regulatory and/or technical challenges requiring subject matter expertise. May provide development of program or function from initial concept to implementation.
    • Manage the administration and evaluation of programs or functions. Oversee the interpretation, implementation and compliance with policies and regulations. Recommend actions and/or resolve complex issues that often span organizational boundaries.
    • Represent the program or function at the university level and/or to external/internal stakeholders and constituencies.
    • Develop and manage outreach strategy that includes relationship development, communications, and compliance.
    • May develop and/or oversee budgets; manage finances including monitoring, analyzing, forecasting, and reporting.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree and eight years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to influence and motivate constituencies which could span multiple organizational boundaries.
    • Demonstrated excellent planning, organizational and analytical skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to make sound business decisions using good business judgment and innovative and creative problem-solving.
    • Demonstrated ability to manage financial, organizational and staff resources.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills with the ability to cultivate professional and business partnerships.
    • Relevant subject matter expertise.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Demonstrated knowledge of the education sector and best practices around curriculum development 
    • Demonstrated knowledge of project management skills in a structured project environment across interdisciplinary groups.
    • Ability to manage budgets and develop financial plans.
    • Ability to use logic to calculate data, efficiently construct a database and produce data in a clear and understandable manner
    • Basic knowledge of AI concepts, such as computer vision, natural language processing, etc.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

    • Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.
    • Frequently stand/walk, sitting, grasp lightly/fine manipulation.
    • Occasionally use a telephone.
    • Rarely lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh 11-20 pounds.

The expected pay range for this position is $131,000 to $175,000 per annum.
Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
