Nature of WORK:

The Department of Anesthesiology seeks a driven and committed professional research assistant (PRA) who has a passion for and experience working with patients and human research subjects, has the ability to be creative and efficient, and enjoys working in an exciting multidisciplinary clinical setting.  This full-time position will work with clinical research faculty to coordinate various research projects and clinical trials in the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. This position will be deployed to work on multiple studies and clinical trials in perioperative medicine, which include research in the dynamic areas of anesthetic safety/efficacy, critical care, drug metabolism, perioperative complications, coagulation, and pain/opioid prescribing. Ideal applicants will be stimulated by new projects, enjoy the challenge of working in an academic teaching hospital and Level 1 Trauma Center, and will be resourceful in working through solutions to daily problems.

The main duties and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to the following:

  • screening, consenting and enrolling study participants in a variety of clinical settings (e.g., operating room, intensive care unit, pre-operative clinic)
  • collecting, processing, and storing samples for future research use; maintaining database information for research samples
  • abstracting data from patient charts and electronic medical records
  • preparing and submitting compliance documentation for the institutional review board and hospital research support services; maintenance of study documents
  • performing data entry into research databases and excel spreadsheets
  • performing basic descriptive and statistical analysis using analytic software and be motivated to learn more advanced techniques as needed
  • assisting principal investigators in abstract and manuscript development
     

The job locations will include the University of Colorado Hospital and office/laboratory buildings on the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, Colorado.

Under the direction of the Vice Chair for Research, the PRA will be assigned various research duties and will report to the relevant Principal investigator (PI) for each specific task. 

 

 

 

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range (or hiring range) has been established at $35,600 to $40,500

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

Qualifications

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
    Experience in using computer-based tools (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.)

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred

  • Candidates with Master’s degree in science, public health, or research-related discipline
  • Prior experience in conducting clinical research (particularly clinical trials)
  • Prior experience in clinical setting
  • Experience with IRB submissions and maintenance of regulatory compliance
  • Redcap database creation and entry
  • Medical chart review and abstraction using an electronic medical record system (EPIC)
  • Experience with clinical research design
  • Experience with scientific writing
  • Experience in basic descriptive and statistical analysis (SAS, SPSS, or R)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Driven to grow as a clinical research professional
  • Ability to understand and interpret medical terminology and medical charts
  • Excellent organization, analytical and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to handle several clinical research projects at a time
