We seek a highly motivated individual to join a dynamic team to solve challenging biomedical questions using state-of-the-art mass spectrometry techniques. Working under the direction of the School of Medicine Metabolomics Core Director and Manager, the candidate will contribute to: a) sample preparation and data analysis for mass spectrometry-based metabolomics, including the qualitative and quantitative characterization of complex biological samples (cells, tissues, biofluids); b) instrumentation quality control; c) communication with collaborators about experimental design and

results; d) assisting with preparation of technical reports, publications, and presentations.

The position requires a highly organized individual with strong motivation, attention to details, and robust understanding of acid/base biochemistry. The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Sample preparation of biological samples for UHPLC- and ICP-MS
  • Metabolomics data analysis
  • Instrumentation quality control and basic maintenance
  • Collaborative dialogue regarding experimental design and data interpretation

Supervision Received

The Senior Professional Research Assistant reports to Angelo D’Alessandro, Associate Professor, Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics.

Supervision Exercised

The Senior PRA will not supervise other employees but will provide oversight and instrument training to others in the lab utilizing ICP- and UHPLC-MS in their projects.

 

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range (or hiring range) has been established at $49,000 - $65,000

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

Qualifications

 

Minimum Qualifications  

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

  • MS in chemistry, biochemistry, or closely related discipline is required OR; BS in chemistry, biochemistry, or closely related discipline with 5 years experience
  • 2 years of experience with bench science is required.
  • 2 years of experience with mass spectrometry or liquid chromatography is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Thermo Vanquish UHPLC and/or Thermo Q Exactive MS is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • To be successful in this position, candidates will need the following:
  • The ability to solve problems and troubleshoot experiments and instrumentation is required.
  • Experience maintaining good records of research and reporting scientific findings
  • Candidate must be proficient with computer operating systems and Microsoft Office software.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with data analysis software and statistical analysis is strongly preferred.
