Nature of Work
The Colorado School of Public Health (ColoradoSPH) has an opening for a full-time position at the rank of Senior Professional Research Assistant (SrPRA). The SrPRA hired as a Database Management Specialist will perform duties to support the Lifecourse Epidemiology of Adiposity and Diabetes (LEAD) Center. The main responsibilities include relational database creation, design and maintenance, RedCap survey design and implementation, managing the LEAD data warehouse, data curation and reporting, and assisting with the management of the LEAD Biorepository sample inventory tracking and developing sample pull lists for biological sample requests.
 
The LEAD Center  is a groundbreaking research center that investigates and seeks to understand the developmental origins of health and disease, particularly obesity, type 1 and type 2 diabetes and the complex interplay of environmental exposures, genetic and epigenetic processes in critical developmental periods in across the lifecourse. LEAD scientists work with data from multiple human cohort studies housed within the Center (Healthy Start, Environmental influences on Child Health Outcomes [ECHO], Exploring Perinatal Outcomes among Children [EPOCH], SEARCH for Diabetes in Youth, Diabetes in Children, Adolescents, and Young Adults [DiCAYA], and Diabetes Prevention Program Outcome Study [DPPOS]).

Examples of Work Performed

  • Use REDCap, Access, and SQL to create databases for research studies

  • Create and update forms/tables/queries for Access and REDCap databases according to the needs of staff and study investigators.

  • Automate REDCap data entry, where possible, using SAS, R, and/or Windows batch files.

  • Manage the LEAD Data Warehouse.

  • Ensure study data are stored and used in a HIPAA compliant manner.

  • Use SAS and/or SQL code to clean, conduct quality control, and develop reports.

  • Train study staff in database management methods as appropriate

  • Perform data cleaning, incorporate externally provided datasets, create derived variables and document data processes across multiple studies within the LEAD Center.

  • Provide summary reports of recruitment and participant demographics for regulatory/funding agencies.

 Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Intermediate to advanced skills with REDCap, MS Access and/or SQL server including creating databases, creating forms, exporting/importing data and summarizing data using the REDCap report tool.

  • Experience working with SAS and/or SQL.

  • Write complex SQL queries for automated reporting

  • Experience working with relational databases (e.g., MS Access databases).

  • Experience with developing SOPs and ancillary documentation involving database management activities

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office products, including Excel, Word, and Access.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Experience in a public health research environment.

Salary and Benefits
The salary range for this position has been established at $63,000 to $68,000. The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, rank, internal equity, experience, education, and area of expertise. The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. Qualifications

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Demonstrated expertise with relational database creation and modification in at least two platforms including REDCap, SQL Server, and/or MS Access.

  • Demonstrated expertise in SAS or SQL programming or other languages/syntaxes commonly used in data management.

  • Prior experience working with PHI and HIPAA covered data

  • Master’s degree or equivalent experience as determined by the dean or their designee.

  • 3 years of experience in a research environment.

 Preferred Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in a public health research environment.

  • Demonstrated expertise with relational database creation and modification multiple platforms including REDCap, SQL Server, and MS Access.

  • Experience with SAS, SQL and R preferred.

  • Experience with EPIC data and/or other electronic health record data

  • Prior work with public health research data on obesity, diabetes, or health across the lifecourse

  • Advanced skills with database design and creation in REDCap, MS Access, and SQL

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Excellent organization skills and high attention to detail.
