Position Description
The Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures at Harvard University seeks applications for a position as Senior Preceptor in Czech Language. The appointment is expected to begin on July 1, 2022, with teaching and administrative responsibilities to begin in Fall Semester 2022. The Senior Preceptor will be responsible for teaching courses in beginning and intermediate Czech, as well as additional tutorials in advanced Czech as needed. The Senior Preceptor will work with the Director of the Slavic Language Program as well as the Department’s Professor of Czech literature to develop courses and materials across the program in Czech language; they will also assist with recruitment of students and expanding interest in the Czech language program. It is highly desirable that the Senior Preceptor be willing to direct Harvard’s eight-week summer study abroad program in Prague, Czech Republic, depending on program needs. The position will also require supervision and mentoring within the Slavic language program as well as administrative duties in the broader Slavic program for undergraduate concentrators. Review of applications will begin after March 1, 2022 and continue until the position is filled. The position is for five years and renewable contingent upon performance, enrollments, and curricular need.
Basic Qualifications
Doctorate in Slavic Language and Literatures or related discipline required by the time the appointment begins. Native or near-native proficiency in Czech and English required. 
Additional Qualifications
The successful applicant should have at least three years’ experience in teaching Czech language at the university level and in language program and curriculum development, language program administration and instructor mentoring, student advising and recruitment, materials design, and teaching with technology.
