Job Description

The Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) invites applications and nominations for the position of Senior PeopleSoft Developer. This is a renewable, full-time, non-tenured, administrative position and reports to the Director, Information and Application Services. The position will be located in Las Vegas, or Reno, Nevada.

The NSHE is comprised of eight institutions: two universities, a state college, four community colleges and a research institute. The public system of higher education in Nevada continues to experience growth with significant challenges and opportunities in serving over 105,000 students and 15,000 employees.

The Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) System Computing Services (SCS) provides application support for the Oracle PeopleSoft Campus Solutions, Portal, and Business Intelligence applications for Shared Instance institutions.  The Shared Instance institutions consist of the College of Southern Nevada (CSN), Great Basin College (GBC), Nevada State College (NSC), Truckee Meadows Community College (TMCC) and Western Nevada College (WNC). 

PeopleSoft Developers are integral members of the Shared Instance support team and are responsible for the development, support, and maintenance of PeopleSoft software applications provided by System Computing Services to the Shared Instance institutions.  SCS applications support the business functions of the NSHE campuses. The Senior PeopleSoft Developer performs these duties under the supervision of the Assistant Director, Information and Application Services.

A Senior PeopleSoft Developer is responsible for the development, support, and maintenance of PeopleSoft software applications provided by System Computing Services to the NSHE community. SCS applications support the business functions of the NSHE campuses.  Design, develop, test, support, document, and implement new functionality and user requested modifications for PeopleSoft Campus Solutions and Portal applications; update existing reports and functionality; analyze and define solutions to client reported problems. Implement a solution through coding, documentation, and testing; train users and other appropriate individuals on the use of the applications/functions developed; communicate with SCS colleagues and with campus customers throughout the processes of designing, developing, and maintaining applications; Non-standard work hours, travel, and 24/7 on-call support responsibilities are required to perform assigned duties.

GRADE:  C (starting salary range approximately $110,000 - $120,000) Benefits package includes health, dental, vision, life and retirement.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A successful candidate must have earned a Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution with four (4) years of professional experience in configuration, development, and maintenance of PeopleSoft Tools and PeopleSoft Applications is required. Alternatively, eight (8) years of professional experience in configuration, development, and maintenance of PeopleSoft Tools and PeopleSoft Applications may be substituted for a bachelor's degree.  

Preference will be given to candidates with experience in PeopleSoft Campus Solutions in higher education.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:  Successful candidates must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities.  Applicants should address following items in their letter of application:

  • Excellence in analysis and problem-solving skills, creativity, verbal and written communication skills, tact, interpersonal skills, ability to function on a team, ability to understand the technical aspects of the information technology services industry.

  • Demonstrates expert knowledge of efficient use of industry-recognized architectural concepts in support of software development.

  • Experience in relational database application development and knowledge of object-oriented programming principles.

  • Experience with Web Services Description Language (WSDL) ;

  • Experience with XML, HTML and HTTP methods;

  • Experience with SQL;

  • Experience developing and maintaining complex ERP applications; e.g. PeopleSoft Campus Solutions;

  • Experience applying maintenance bundles, critical patches, and service levels for PeopleSoft applications and tools;

  • Experience with PeopleSoft’s Application Designer, and Data Mover;

  • An understanding of technical architecture design, Integration Broker architecture, and best practices for PeopleSoft;

  • Ability to follow established processes and procedures;

  • Ability and interest to learn new techniques, tools, and methodologies as they relate to PeopleSoft administration.

RESPONSIBILITIES:  The duties of this position will include, but not be limited to, the following areas of responsibility within Client Services:

  • Analyze and define the problem or new function.  Define a solution - An analysis of the problem is required whether approaching a new application or maintaining an existing application.  Research and problem solving are required to define a successful solution.  An accurate initial definition of the work and a good design will affect the success of subsequent implementation and use. The rapid evolution of information technologies and tools requires researching and learning new techniques and adapting them to NSHE IT processes.  A Senior PeopleSoft Developer will be assigned to lead programming projects.

  • Implement a solution through coding, documentation, and testing - Skillful coding and thorough testing are required to create an efficient workable programming solution.  Sufficient documentation will enable continued support of the application.  Accurate, efficient, understandable, and easy to use applications impact the productivity, efficiency and accuracy of NSHE member institutions’ business practices.

  • Communicate with SCS colleagues and with campus customers throughout the processes of creating and maintaining applications - Communication with customers is essential in designing an application and assessing its success.  Communication with the SCS programming, operations, systems, and customer services staff is essential in forging the team support required for successful service to customers.  For customer satisfaction and productivity, it is essential to understand the NSHE customers’ business processes and goals and how available IT applications can facilitate those processes and goals.

  • Mentoring - The Senior PeopleSoft Developer will advice and provide guidance for trainees and other PeopleSoft Developers about best practices for the design and development of PeopleSoft applications.
