Job Description:

The Senior Parent Giving and Recognition Officer is an integral member of the Parent and Family Giving team, which develops programming, events, volunteer opportunities, and communications to maximize the engagement and philanthropy of Brown’s parent community, with a particular focus on non-alumni parents.

This individual manages the Brown Parents Annual Fund, which includes planning and executing all fundraising initiatives focused on securing gifts from non-alumni parents to the Brown Annual Fund, a significant component of unrestricted, current-use giving to Brown. This role includes managing the Parents Leadership Council, the premiere volunteer engagement opportunity for non-alumni parents, as well as the Brown Family Fellows Giving Society. Finally, the individual tracks the entire population of rated but unmanaged current parents and selectively engages this population to help qualify and solicit leadership non-alumni parents.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a related field such as fundraising, higher education, nonprofits, sales, development, customer relations, etc.

Required Qualifications

  • Must be willing and able to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed.  Minimal travel is required, though opportunities for occasional travel may exist

  • Strong organizational and planning skills with the ability to conceive, propose, execute, and evaluate short- and long-term plans that support the activities of the program and contribute to the overall goals of the Advancement Division. The ability to handle and prioritize multiple concurrent tasks is essential.

  • Superior interpersonal skills with proven ability to collaborate and build positive rapport with varied constituencies professionally; clarity, professionalism, and diplomacy in written and oral communication skills; and comfort interacting with individuals of considerable social status and affluence

  • Competence with online and Windows software such as or similar to Google Mail and calendaring, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and database software.

  • Ability to apply good judgment and responsible decision-making; tact and discretion are required to deal with highly confidential parent, student, family, donor, and prospect information.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a higher education or non-profit setting

  • Direct experience with fundraising, volunteer management, and/or working with parents in a private school or college setting is highly desired.

  • Confidence in learning and manipulating a variety of technology and software platforms
