Job Description

The Network Services department of Boston College Information Technology Services is responsible for all of the University’s network infrastructure ( ex: switches/routers/ VPNs/wireless devices/firewalls/datacenters)  and interconnections between the University’s campuses, internet, Internet2 and cloud applications and services.  The staff works closely with the systems and ITS security teams. The Senior Network Systems Engineer provides technical expertise in the engineering, installation, monitoring and maintenance of the network in support of the University’s business needs and academic mission.  

Position Requirements:
- Work collaboratively as a member of the Network Services engineering team and in cross-functional teams within IT and across the University.

- Flexibility, willingness & ability to quickly learn and support new technologies as needed. 
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills
- Oral and written communication skills, especially the ability to produce thorough and clear written documentation.
- Off-hours support for troubleshooting, configuration changes and deploying new equipment as required. 
Title and salary commensurate with relevant experience based on the following titles and hiring ranges:
Senior level salary up to 115K

 


Requirements

Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree and minimum of 6 years relevant experience preferred.
- Cisco certifications are a plus.
- Verbal and written communication skills: must be able to articulate technical issues & solutions and produce clear, concise written documentation. 

Technical Qualifications
- Expertise with all network protocols including  IPV4  / OSPF / BGP / protocol analysis / VPNs / Firewalls / SNMPv3, netflow & monitoring tools
- Experience with Cisco (nexus/ASR/ASA/Firepower ), Fortigate, Extreme Networks and Aruba wireless network equipment
- Knowledge of IPV6, AWS/cloud networking, SIP/VoIP experience desirable. 
- Familiarity with programming / scripting ( ex: Python) skills a plus
