Position Overview
The Information Technology Department at the University of North Texas Health Science Center is seeking to hire a Senior Network Engineer to join our team. The Senior Network Engineer assists with the design, implementation, monitoring, and support of UNTHSC’s local area and wireless networks. As a primary technical resource, the Senior Network Engineer is responsible for the set-up and repair of network infrastructure, including the monitoring and diagnosis of network performance, and resolution of network-based incidents and requests, especially complex incidents requiring research and diagnostics. This position may administer network security measures, may supervise the work of others and works under limited supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to: * Install and maintain routers, switches, firewalls, and core networking applications. * Respond to IT support requests in a timely manner. * Work with hardware and software vendors on installations, project coordination, maintenance and emergency response. * Meet with business units and IT associates to define issues and develops solutions and efficiencies to address identified issues. * Coordinate and participate in the resolution of sensitive and critical network and security issues. * Monitor network systems, including traffic, and implement efficiency improvements. * Provide network reporting, analysis and recommendations. * Design and implement redundant systems to ensure effective protection and integrity of system up time & data assets. Good working knowledge of the following: * Supported networks, data architecture, applicable technologies and vendor products. * Security systems. * Utilities. * Firewall, router, switch hardware and software. * Network and routing topology. * Diagnostic techniques. * Applicable communication protocols and hardware configurations. * Statistical and analytical tools for network monitoring.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and four (4) years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Preferred Qualifications
The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications: * CCNA, CCNP, CCIE or equivalent certification preferred. * 5+ years of experience configuring and supporting Local Area Networks and Wireless Networks. * Cisco experience preferred. * Demonstrates broad knowledge of network and security technologies and standards. * Demonstrated ability to multi-task; Possesses strong analytical skills. * Demonstrated customer orientation; strength in analytical, math, and reasoning skills. * Effectively communicates verbally and in writing. * Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office applications.

Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm and as needed.

Job Duties

Configure and install software, switches, routers and other network devices
o
Monitor network performance and integrity
o
Provide troubleshooting and support for cloud and local infrastructure.
o
Maintain complete technical documentation
o
Suggest improvements to network performance, capacity and scalability
o
Create, oversee and test security measures (e.g. access authentication and disaster recovery)
o
Working with third-party providers to keep the networks running efficiently
