We’re looking for an enthusiastic business operations lead who aspires to join a team of scientists working at the cutting edge of drug discovery in Ophthalmology. The candidate will uphold the standards of operational excellence, manage business continuity, quality, compliance, and system enhancements to drive excellence toward the goals of the Ophthalmology group at Novartis.
The Senior Manager, Research Operations will join the Portfolio Strategy and Operations team to support functional processes, programs, and services for our Cambridge, MA site. Through engagement with associates across the disease area (DA) and the Ophthalmology Leadership Team, this individual will be responsible for tracking collaboration and equipment budgets, enabling transparency through effective adoption and use of information-sharing tools, and foster a culture of clear and meaningful communication.
Additional responsibilities include, but not limited to:
•Under the guidance of the NIBR Ophthalmology Portfolio Director, the successful candidate will ensure smooth day-to-day operations on DA activities, manage the budget and support finance activities, including contracts and research agreements under the DA budget, and coordinate and run the DA management meeting.
•Foster DA identity and sense of community through leading internal communication activities and driving initiatives/ workstreams within the DA and in partnership with other line functions at NIBR, and in collaboration with GDD and Commercial.
•Serve as a DA operational representative as assigned to business activities and represent the DA in various workstreams, cross-functional initiatives or process improvement initiatives.
•Develop and maintain strong relationships with the scientists as well as with NIBR Operations community to ensure alignment and execution of the Ophthalmology Disease Area and NIBR strategic objectives.
•Identifying opportunities and implementing plans to improve local operations.
•Responsible to support the implementation of a global communications strategy and operational plan for the DA.
•Effectively tie the global communications plan to the DA strategy and develop KPIs to measure and evaluate its effectiveness.

Minimum Requirements
What you’ll bring to the role:
•Minimum of a Bachelor's degree required. Advanced degree or Master's in life sciences/chemistry, or Bachelor's degree plus Master of Business Administration degree is preferred.
•A minimum of 6 years of experience in a multi-disciplinary environment or in a line function (drug development)
•Pharmaceutical or Biotechnology company experience
•Broad understanding of drug development process; demonstrated success in planning and executing cross-functional projects
•Established track record for organizational skills and excellent time management with respect to priorities and self- management
•Highly organized with strong project management skills and drive to meet organizational goals
•High process orientation and the proven ability to make the complex simple
•A team player and collaborator with strong interpersonal skills.
•Proven ability to organize and build strong partnerships across partner functions in a matrix environment, and influence and motivate others without a reporting authority.
•Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential.
•Competent with various IT modalities (e.g., PowerPoint, Excel, SharePoint)
