Duties/Responsibilities:

The Lone Oaks Farm 4-H & Youth Development Center provides a safe and efficient facility for 4-H Camping, year round school programs, UT user groups and outside rental groups. The maintenance position works to provide a safe, clean and attractive environment for all groups at the Lone Oaks Farm 4-H & Youth Development Center. The appearance of the facility is instrumental in recruiting business and industry, churches and civic organizations to use the facility and creating in the general public a very favorable impression of Extension and the University of Tennessee. This position will help perform maintenance on the facilities, equipment, plumbing, and electrical within the scope of the position holder's knowledge and abilities. To ensure all areas are in working order, this position will work closely with the manager and head of maintenance on a daily basis.

The position is responsible to Operations Management I. This is a 40 hour per week position.

· Maintenance responsibilities including but not limited to design, cost estimation, layout and assistance in installation of maintenance projects; locating and mapping of camp underground utilities; assisting in the installation of underground utilities; inspect sewer system on a bi-weekly basis to make sure floats and control panels are operational; maintain camp electrical system such as lighting repair and upgrades, electrical panel, time clock, motor starters, electrical disconnect preventative maintenance; materials handling from generating lists, researching pricing, pickup and delivery and installation; maintain efficient operations and upkeep of camp property, buildings and grounds; basic electrical, HVAC and plumbing troubleshooting and assistance with repair; winter time walk through check of all buildings looking for water leaks, damage, and temperature; inspection of camp property for safety concerns as well as laying out safe work areas; inspection of camp equipment for safety concerns and operation; locking and securing of buildings at the end of the day; online research for products that can make camp eco-friendly and save utility costs; paint, pressure wash and stain woodwork; assisting with basic vehicle maintenance; all duties performed under the guidance and supervision of the Center Director.

· Grounds responsibilities including but not limited to maintenance of zero turn mowers, weed eaters, hedge trimmers, farm tractors, and utility carts to include service and minor repairs as well as operation; maintenance of grounds such as mowing, pruning, trimming, leaf pickup; garbage pickup, ground reclamation, weed control, insect control, etc.; maintain and/or enhance the landscape ; pick up limbs and brush; trim trees and shrubs; be proactive in weed control; apply pesticides/herbicides according to the label.

· General Camp Management – Assist with other duties including, but not limited to: environmental program teaching and programming as necessary or assigned by the 4-H Center Director; teaching shooting sports (archery & rifle); work in kitchen to help food prep, stocking, cleanup, and dish washing; grill cook; cleaning responsibilities including vacuuming, running commercial floor cleaner, cleaning windows, beams, drink stations, walls, bathrooms; breakdown and set up for groups; audio and video set up for groups; maintaining cleanliness and readiness of guest quarters; vacuuming, sweeping, dusting, mopping, and sanitizing mattresses; cleaning and sanitizing lavatories and showers; washing, folding and sorting linens for bed turnovers; trash pickup; general duties assigned by Center Director.

 



Qualifications

 

Minimum/Required Qualifications (include education experience, skills & abilities, licenses & certifications):

· High school diploma or GED.

· Strong attention to detail, self-motivated, positive attitude, strong work ethic and physical stamina to complete duties in a timely and excellent manner.

· Must have a working knowledge of various kitchen equipment.

· Experience in operating small equipment-chainsaw, hedge trimmers, power tools, etc.

· Experience in reading and comprehending maintenance manuals.

· Must have good math skills, good communication skills, and be a team player.

· Experience in working with the general public on a daily basis.

· Knowledge and ability to maintain good working relations with co-workers and outside groups.

· Ability to multi-task.

· Maintain a flexible work schedule, and have excellent customer service skills.

· Clear background check will be required.

· Must have a valid Driver’s license.

Preferred/Desired Qualifications:

· Some college/technical school

· A working knowledge in the areas of small engine repair, large engine repair, HVAC, and electrical circuits

· Basic plumbing, landscape/groundskeeping experience and mechanical skills

· Electrical license

· First Aid/CPR certified or willing to become certified.
