Job Description:

Senior Library Associate Specialist â“ Technical Services

The Library is seeking candidates for the position Senior Library Associate Specialist-Technical Services to work in the Rockefeller Library.  The successful candidate will be responsible for performing a broad range of tasks related to the acquisition of library materials, including maintaining the accuracy and consistency of bibliographic and holdings information.  This is a full-time position working Monday â“ Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. as a member of the Libraryâ™s bargaining union staff.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs maintenance and updating of bibliographic, order, item, and holdings records for all library locations in a variety of formats and on online systems (e.g. OCLC, Millennium, GOBI)
  • Creates order, item, holdings and temporary online bibliographic records for all library locations according to local and Library standards in a variety of formats and on cataloging systems (e.g. OCLC, Millennium)
  • Receives and processes acquisitions in a variety of languages and formats encompassing firm orders, approval plans, purchase plans, standing orders, gifts and depository materials
  • Searches online and offline resources in order to identify and describe library materials
  • Match funds according to approval plan guidelines
  • Reviews, verifies and processes invoices for payment including purchasing card transactions and resolves related problems; updates currency exchange rates
  • Maintains library vendor file information; submits additions/changes to Universityâ™s Purchasing Department
  • Using existing cataloging information, processes additions, withdrawals, and/or transfers to library holdings for all library locations
  • Organizes and distributes incoming cataloging materials and requests; locates in-process materials requested by users
  • Searches and exports records using OCLC
  • Runs reports according to instructions
  • Assists with special projects
  • Prepares correspondence, reports, and other communications as required
  • Assists with related clerical work, including filing, revision of filing, and sorting and distributing mail
  • Keeps and compiles accurate statistics relevant to work performed
  • Trains and directs the work of student assistants; monitors their daily assignments
  • Performs related duties as required

Supervisor : Manager, Acquisitions and Materials Processing

Minimum supervision provided; works independently under general direction; makes independent judgments and decisions within the scope of library policies and procedures

Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelorâ™s degree or equivalent professional experience
  • Computer skills, ability to use standard computer software packages (e.g., Word and Excel)
  • Ability to learn new technologies and systems necessary to be effective and for continued job performance
  • Eyesight which permits close work
  • Ability to unpack, shelve, and move library materials
  • Ability to interact favorably with co-workers and library users
  • Ability to work without close supervision
  • Problem solving skills
  • ·Ability to perform detailed work accurately with reasonable speed

  • Possesses a willingness and ability to support a diverse and inclusive campus community
  • Knowledge of a foreign language desirable
  • Relevant work experience preferred
  • Successful completion of a test may be required
