Boston University’s Center for English Language & Orientation Programs (CELOP) invites applicants for a Full-Time Senior Lecturer (non-tenure track). Senior Lecturers play a central role in fulfilling CELOP’s mission by planning and delivering high quality English language courses, as well as contributing to the development and administration of CELOP’s academic offerings. CELOP faculty are expected to be leaders in the field of English as a Second Language (ESL) Teaching who demonstrate high levels of professionalism and foster innovation in ESL curriculum development, teaching, and program delivery.

  • Teach English as a second/additional language (360 classroom hours per year) in multiple modalities (in-person, hybrid, online) to students of all levels and orient them to local cultural contexts, including academic norms and expectations; guide, assess, evaluate, and communicate students’ learning progress against stated curricular objectives. (70%)
  • Fulfill administrative responsibilities in a timely and conscientious manner; work collaboratively with others in course delivery and program development, and maintain fluency with the latest teaching methods and materials; play an active role in the development of CELOP programs through committee work, collaboration with colleagues, and/or individual initiatives. (10%)
  • Coordinate special academic programs for specific disciplines or populations; develop new courses and/or programs for specific partners or populations, particularly in one of the following areas: adult education, workplace education, ESP for designated professions. (15%)
  • Work to identify and design educational plans, technology, tools, and programs for CELOP’s learning environment, including online/hybrid programs; actively engage in, and contribute to, professional development both at CELOP and in the field. (5%)

  • Master’s degree in a relevant area such as TESOL, Language Education, or Applied Linguistics; master’s degree in educational technology with a certificate in TESOL or completed coursework towards a master’s degree in TESOL will also be considered;
  • Minimum of three years of teaching experience in university-based English language programs, with demonstrated teaching excellence;
  • Demonstrated experience in English language program development and/or a record of professional service;
  • Current and relevant knowledge of the field such as pedagogical principles, teaching and assessment methods and techniques of English and second language acquisition;
  • Excellent proficiency in English (native or near-native);
  • Knowledge of educational technology and instructional design;
  • Knowledge of adult or workplace education is desired;
  • Knowledge of and experience in teaching English for Specific Purposes is preferred.
