The Health Science Center (HSC) is looking for an Senior Laboratory Coordinator to serve as a member in the Center for Innovation in Advanced Development and Manufacturing (CIADM) team. The Texas A&M University Health CIADM program operates the Transboundary Emerging Disease facility for Zoetis Inc. While officially working at the TED facility, you will also be a subcontractor to Zoetis (an American drug company and the world’s largest producer of medicine and vaccination products advancing the care for pets and livestock) and have the opportunity to work on vaccine programs that may ultimately be produced at one of their many facilities.

Job Summary:
The Senior Laboratory Coordinator, under general supervision, will coordinate and oversee daily activities in the Zoetis facility and CIADM laboratory. Responsibilities will include administering routine, preventative, and planned facility and laboratory equipment maintenance and coordinates/conducts equipment qualification and calibration services. Keeps facilities in safe, secured condition and in constant working order. Assists with maintenance of mechanical and electrical operations, HVAC, and architecture to ensure facilities are comfortable and safe for faculty, staff, students, and guests.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Five years of related experience.   

Required Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.

  • Ability to promptly respond to on-site emergency calls.

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science or Biomedicine.

  • Five years in facilities and laboratory equipment and building maintenance, or facilities construction, scheduling, and inventory.

  • Laboratory/Manufacturing experience in either: Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), Good Laboratory Practice (GLP), Good Clinical Practice (GCP), or Good Distribution Practice (GDP).

  • Heavy interest and exposure to Laboratory/Manufacturing equipment and operations.

  • Experience working with diverse individuals and communities.

Other Requirements or Other Factors:

  • May be required to work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends.

Responsibilities:

  • Receives and distributes supplies/mail/specimen from post offices, docks, bus depots, and labs to facilities. Assists with maintenance of general supply inventory and equipment storage. Develops reports, SOPs, policies, and forms related to this position. Collects certificates of analysis or equivalents for raw materials and supplies.

  • Coordinates and prepares required work orders for electrical, plumbing, custodial, carpentry, key, and sign shops to perform work required to maintain facilities. Manages property through the ordering and installation of equipment. Acts as surplus equipment and furniture coordinator, handling recyclable materials and sharps containers. Monitors and restocks office/lab supplies. Tags new acquisitions and proper disposal of unusable furniture/equipment. Assists with the maintenance of inventory records and performing annual departmental inventory certification for submission to Property Management. Assists staff and faculty with facility requests, including furniture/equipment moving and assembling, office painting, building renovations, mounting bulletin boards, replacing light bulbs, delivering paper, etc.

  • Promotes safe building access practices for faculty, staff, and student workers, providing reminders as necessary and reporting incidents or accidents, when required, if safety rules are compromised. Assists with requests for rekeying entry access and requests for additional keys to a location. Serves as a contact for after-hours building emergencies. Obtains and distributes all appropriate testing, certification, validation, "as-built", spare parts, operating or maintenance manual documentation, and drawings. Keeps digital and printed copies.

  • Conducts daily equipment checks and troubleshooting, and environmental monitoring. Performs equipment and facility routine maintenance. Coordinates equipment qualification and calibration services. Fixes minor issues in equipment or arranges for repairs when needed. Coordinates preventive maintenance and repair services for equipment and facilities. Tracks and coordinates service schedules for equipment and facilities. Coordinates small renovation projects.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
