Unit Mission Statement
The mission of the Office of Internal Audit is to provide independent and objective assurance and consulting services guided by a philosophy of adding value to the operations of William & Mary and Richard Bland College.
The Office of Internal Audit reports directly to the Committee on Audit, Risk, and Compliance of the Board of Visitors.
Position Summary
The Office of Internal Audit at W&M is seeking a Senior Internal Auditor. General audit responsibilities include planning a variety of financial, operational, compliance, and investigative audits of university operations and systems. Auditors will identify business issues and develop recommendations for University management; identify and recommend changes in policy and control procedures, and educate management on ways to respond to risk. Senior Internal Auditors lead and execute moderate-to-complex level audits.
As a trusted advisor and partner, the Senior Internal Auditor cultivates relationships and works with management while providing independent audit and advisory services. Auditors will demonstrate excellent teamwork, collaboration and a growth mindset with a high level of ethics.
Conditions of Employment
This position may require additional hours beyond the typical work week, to include occasional overnight and weekend work as needed to meet the business needs of the operation.

Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, or finance or related field. Related experience and ability may be substituted for degrees in other disciplines.
• Several years of experience (typically three or more) analyzing internal control systems and procedures.
• Experience applying accounting principles and professional auditing standards.
• Experience researching, interpreting, and/or evaluating compliance with pertinent laws, regulations, policies, etc.
• Demonstrates excellent written, verbal & interpersonal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
• Professional Certification such as a CPA, CIA, or CISA.
• Experience planning, coordinating, directing, and conducting all aspects of complex audits.
• Experience conducting audits of sensitive IT systems or IT operational programs.
• Strong analytical and documentation experience.
• Experience working independently and/or supervising staff in completing audit, projects concurrently.
• Experience with Computer Assisted Auditing tools.
• Knowledge of federal and state laws/regulations applicable to higher education.
