Summary

The School of Public Health (SPH) seeks a Senior Instructional Learning Specialist to contribute to our mission of expanding SPH's educational offerings, including new online degree programs. As part of our dynamic team, you will employ evidence-based, learner-centered design approaches to collaborate with faculty and course teams in developing new courses and transforming existing ones. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Instructional Services, you will help propose pedagogical and technological solutions for complex challenges in online, hybrid, and residential learning environments. We are seeking an experienced and dynamic staff member with a commitment to contributing to a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment for all members of our community.

A hybrid work schedule is available for this position, and details can be worked out with your supervisor.

Responsibilities*

Course Design & Development 

  • Utilize evidence-based, learner-centered design approaches to develop new courses and enhance existing ones.
  • Collaborate with faculty and interdisciplinary teams to ensure diversity, equity, inclusiveness, and anti-racism are integrated into learning experiences.
  • Evaluate courses using established quality assurance methods (e.g., OLC, QM) and provide improvement recommendations.
  • Offer technical assistance in instructional tool and platform usage.
  • Build courses on the Canvas and Coursera platforms.

Project Management 

  • Lead and coordinate course development teams, content experts, and stakeholders.
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators to evaluate instructional materials' effectiveness.

Innovation 

  • Design learning experiences integrating new technologies (e.g., XR, genAI) to align with educational goals.
  • Provide training and support for educators and learners on technology use.

Applied Research

  • Lead research to enhance teaching and learning at the course and program levels.
  • Disseminate findings internally, at conferences, and through written reports and manuscripts.
  • Identify and pursue funding opportunities through grant proposals.

Capacity Expansion 

  • Propose and lead workshops and trainings for faculty, staff, and students.
  • Support Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives through collaborations and innovation.

Leadership and Supervision

  • Conduct needs assessments and develop strategic solutions.
  • Lead complex instructional projects.
  • Mentor junior instructional designers and team members in best practices and methodologies.

Required Qualifications*
  • Master's degree in Education, Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Information Science, or related field.
  • 3+ years of teaching experience in K-12 or higher education, or online settings, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience collaborating with faculty and instructional support teams to develop high-quality synchronous, asynchronous, online, and hybrid courses emphasizing inclusion, accessibility, best practices, and scalability.
  • Proficiency in using learning management systems and online education platforms, such as Canvas, Coursera, and edX.
  • Experience with web conferencing, webcasting, and lecture-capturing systems.
  • Familiarity with student engagement tools, including iClicker, PollEverywhere, and similar platforms.
