Position Description

  • Provide guidance, consulting, and problem resolution for all human resources related issues.  

  • Coach and advise managers in orientation, performance management, employee engagement, retention, career development, and other HR related matters.  

  • Consult with and advise managers and employees on employee relations matters, including any HUCTW related issues.  

  • Work closely with managers and employees to mitigate human resources risks to the University.  

  • Partner with FAS HR Talent Acquisition Consultants to provide recruitment, selection and hiring actions and activities for staff.  

  • Advise, interpret, and communicate regarding all FAS HR and HHR policies, practices, and processes.  

  • Collaborate with managers to diagnose organizational design, staff development and training needs.  

  • Manage salary administration and internal equity for new hires, reclassifications and reorganizations.  

  • Manage compensation activities, including conducting equity reviews for staff.  

  • Support the implementation of the annual merit increase and bonus process.  

  • Arrange for and/or provide HR related training to clients/staff.  

  • Educate managers and supervisors on their obligations under the contract and how to work cooperatively with union representatives. Guide managers on workplace policies, procedures, and decisions to ensure compliance with the collective bargaining agreement. In partnership with the Office of Labor and Employee Relations, serve as point of contact for union representatives and employees regarding contract interpretation, grievances, and other labor-related matters.  

  • Partner with OGC to ensure compliance within the University and FAS HR policies, procedures, requirements, and applicable legal regulations.


Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required
  • Minimum of 8 years’ relevant HR experience

Additional Qualifications and Skills

  • Experience in a multi-discipline Human Resource environment including expertise in employee relations, recruitment and retention, training, compensation, performance management, and organizational development.  
  • Advanced knowledge and established application of employment law and HR policies and practices; business acumen. 
  • Demonstrated experience and understanding of the administration of bargaining unit policies and procedures. 
  • Track record of strong business judgment; understanding and connecting human resources with client goals and mission.  
  • Exceptional communication and customer service skills.  
  • Highly organized approach to work and setting priorities; ability to analyze a situation, formulate responses and take appropriate action.  
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn new systems with some ease.  
  • SHRM certification or equivalent certification desirable. 
  • Proven experience working collaboratively; demonstrated commitment to teamwork and positive collaboration to accomplish goals.  
  • Demonstrated abilities as a creative problem-solver.  

Physical Requirements

This individual will attend meetings at various campus locations, primarily in Cambridge, MA.

This is a hybrid position that is based in Massachusetts. Additional details will be discussed during the interview process.
