Position Summary
The Senior Human Resources Partner will support the achievement of the vision, mission and strategic goals of the Law School by helping to attract, retain and manage our most valued assets—our employees. They will play a vital role in the operations of the Law School, providing guidance on human resources policies, best practices and processes to the School administration, managers, as well as to employees. This individual will be a Departmental HR Partner in the Work Day system.


Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Recruitment, Hiring and Retention

  • Work closely with the Dean, the Associate Dean for Finance, and Chief of Staff to the Dean to develop Human Resources practices that are people centered and responsive to the school strategic plan/priorities. 
  • Assist with development of job descriptions for faculty and staff positions, ensuring attention to Law School context and values. This includes creating and approving new positions and job assignments in Work Day.
  • Coordinate advertising and recruitment efforts for all open positions. Assist faculty and managers with University search and selection processes. Coordinate with Employment Office to perform applicant review, candidate screening, testing, interviewing, contacting references, job offers, and background checks.
  • Coordinate development and communication of job offers and offer letters, in close communication with Associate Dean for Finance, Chief of Staff to the Dean, and Employment Office;
  • Manage closure communication with candidates.
  • Manage employee on boarding, including the planning and leading Law School new employee orientation program. Works closely with Law School departments and offices to provide appropriate training and information, office space, technology needs, and awareness of School and University resources.  
  • Oversees hiring and employment issues associated with international staff and faculty (obtaining appropriate visas, obtaining permanent residence); consult with Office of International Office of Students and Scholars as needed.
  • Manage all academic and staff personnel data, approve all employee appointments adhering to University guidelines.  
  • Work closely with Associate Dean for Finance, Chief of Staff to the Dean, and the Law DEI officer to develop and implement a Diversity, Inclusion & Equity Plan for the Law School in alignment with the University’s diversity efforts and initiatives. 
  • Consistent evaluation of the school recruitment practices to include support and training for hiring managers, and monitoring of best practices regarding recruitment strategies including those related to diversity, inclusion and equity.
  • Partner with administration to develop HR practices that will be responsive to the new strategic plan
  • Collaborate with Compensation Department to coordinate compensation adjustments, promotions, position description revisions and title changes. 

Employee Relations; Staff Development and Performance Management

  • Serves as the subject matter expert to advise leadership regarding general University human resources policies and procedures. As well as a trusted advisor to leadership in all matters related to talent development, organizational performance, engagement and culture, leadership, and strategic planning. Coaches school leaders/managers on how to manage change and/or people more effectively.  
  • Helps resolve workplace conflicts, applying University policies and procedures. Investigates employee concerns, evaluate and offer possible resolution, and provide work related advice, guidance and direction to resolve employee issues, including referring employees to the Office of Human Resources and the Work Life Solutions Program (formerly known as EAP).
  • Serves as liaison to Office of Human Resources and Legal Counsel. Recommends and helps develop performance improvement plans. Coordinates performance management processes, applying strategies for ensuring completion of annual performance evaluations and six month reviews for new employees.
  • Manages all separations. Advises employees and managers on University separation policies and procedures. 
  • Collaborates with central HR, hiring managers and leadership to deliver key programs in the school to support talent assessment, talent development, and enhancing leadership capabilities.
  • Manages the school professional development budget for staff and develops guidelines to allocate the funds.
  • Develops and coordinates Law School awards, people engagement programs and recognition programs.

HR Reporting and Analytics

  • Works closely with the Shared Business Services Hub to set up and maintain personnel documents in the University’s human resource records filing and retrieval system. Ensures accuracy of employee data in HR systems.
  • Develops routine reporting of School-wide organizational growth, employee transitions, composition, yearly equity analysis, and diversity, for School administration and to support efforts to ensure equity, expand recruitment efforts, and other efforts.
  • Performs and analyzes exit interviews; using exit interviews data will develop reports and recommend changes if needed. Coordinates succession and employee replacement planning.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources management, higher education administration, public administration, psychology or business.
  • Five years of professional work experience in human resources, with two years at management level.
  • Experience in interpreting and applying human resources-related policies, and state and federal employment laws. 
  • Experience with D&I work and language.
  • Experience with Organizational Transformation
  • Proficiency in MS Office, MS Outlook, and MS SharePoint.
  • Experience with PeopleSoft Human Resources Management Systems, and/or Workday.
  • Familiar with employment law and higher education sector and other relevant sectors of the employment market.
  • Demonstrated skills in counseling; coaching; mediating and facilitating. 
  • Demonstrated skills in decision-making; negotiating; and influencing.
  • Experience in developing and implement training programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential materials and maintain confidentiality. 
  • Ability to work with a diverse workforce and in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and customer service skills. 
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong analytical skills.

  • Experience in interpreting and applying human resources-related policies, and state and federal employment laws.

Salary Range
$62,000.00 - $106,000.00 / Annually

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
