Description
Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to join an innovative GIS team with the Division of Wildlife Resources (DWR)? If so, the Habitat Section of the division is seeking a Senior GIS Analyst to design and administer spatial databases, manage wildlife data, assist with wildlife study design using GIS tools, and to produce and curate a robust set of data products to inform wildlife decisions and policies. Your creative GIS solutions will support wildlife biologists, resource managers, and partners. As a Senior GIS Analyst, you will: -support the spatial database and geospatial analysis needs of Utah’s Natural Heritage Program and DWR habitat section. -design and execute wildlife study design and GIS field application workflows. scope, plan, and complete many GIS based projects using a variety of software and programming tools. -deliver spatial data products that allow Division staff to visualize and interact with biological datasets. -promote discovery and analysis of new data trends by making wildlife data accessible and interpretable. -create documentation to facilitate repeatable and transparent workflows. -collaborate with a team of GIS professionals and wildlife staff to produce innovative wildlife data tools and products. -perform and automate QA/QC duties including development of verification and validation workflows.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have: -A bachelor’s degree in geography, GIS, wildlife biology, or another applicable, natural resource-related field. -At least 2 years demonstrated successful GIS and/or data analysis work experience in a natural resource-related field. -Specialized technology skills such as scripting, database design and theory, spatial modeling, web map creation, dashboard design, and cartography. -Experience using Google Cloud Platform, R, ESRI and other GIS-related products and tools. -The ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing. -Demonstrated abilities to build collaborative, solution-based partnerships and work with diverse people. -An understanding of wildlife field methods and associated tools. -The ability to find creative, pragmatic ways to solve problems and improve processes. -Attention to detail and dedication to preserving and authenticating data integrity -An understanding and appreciation for the history and traditions associated with hunting, fishing, trapping, and shooting sports, and recognition of how those activities support wildlife conservation. Preference will be given to candidates: -With specialized GIS skills such as spatial tool customization, scripting workflows, advanced cartography, spatial modeling, and spatial database design. -Experience configuring and developing web-based and mobile GIS-based applications is also preferred. -Additional consideration may be given to candidates with knowledge of both cloud-based database design, as well as landscape scale wildlife study design and implementation.
