Program Development and Management

Monitors program metrics and conducts quality improvement studies.

Serves as primary contact for all cancer genetics related issues.

Attends multidisciplinary meetings (tumor boards, bioethics committee meetings, program meetings, and staff meetings).

Leadership and Mentorship

Collaborates with clinicians across UIH and MSHC to ensure cancer genetics services needs are met.

Designs, pilots, implement, and evaluate various service delivery methods (e.g. telehealth) to increase access and promote work efficiency.

Identifies best practices among genetics counseling team and disseminate information accordingly.

Determine staffing needs, including coordinating staff and clinic schedules.

Supervises and evaluates staff performance.

Develops orientation/training/mentoring plans for staff.

Clinical Care and Patient Advocacy

Provides cancer genetic counseling to patients/families.

Provides risk assessments.

Counsels patients and family members by providing information, education, or psychosocial support regarding genetic risks and inherited conditions.

Facilitates patient’s decision-making process and obtains informed consent regarding various genetic testing and management options.

Coordinates genetic testing, including test and lab selection and assisting patients with financial assistance programs, if applicable.

Provides standard recommendation for screening and prevention.

Research, Education and Professional Development.

Leads and develops a research agenda related to genetic services in an undeserved patient population.

Creates research protocols.

Seeks out opportunities to present research and/or publish manuscript to disseminate best practice

Collaborates with external institutions on various research studies relating to clinical genetics topics

Keeps abreast of developments in genetics and genomics

Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
