Position Summary
Position serves as lead staff specialist for the financial operations of School level financial allocations, integrations, analysis and special projects. Analyze and document business practices/work flows. Design, implement, and maintain financial related technology solutions and business applications for department by utilizing skills in applications development, project management, and specialized technical knowledge.


Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Leads, directs and oversees School Level financial objectives including, but not limited to:

    o   Allocations - Create, maintain, manage, and analyze financial allocation results.

    o   Planning - Prepare ten year plan, forecasting, and financial models.

    o   Accounting - Review the integrity and quality of general ledger reporting, including the Foundation Data Model and auditing of financial data.

    o   Analysis - Provides recommendations to senior leadership related to results of ad hoc and other special projects as assigned.

    o   Reporting - Gathers data requirements for new reporting needs and tests reports created by the financial reporting team.

  • Serves as a liaison with the financial reporting team to support financial planning, reporting and analysis initiatives utilizing various university systems and reporting systems. Responsibilities include supporting departmental team members by designing reports and tools using the most up-to-date University technology. Independently and in collaboration with others, make recommendations for and implement improvements and streamlining of processes and procedures.
  • Works with the department Directors and Assistant Directors to development and implement new, or improve existing, reporting and analysis tools.
  • Evaluates, reviews and enhances processes that impact the integrity of the data involved in financial allocations and integrations.

  • Creates and maintains foundation data model values while keeping data aligned across the platform.
  • Implements strategies for gathering, reviewing and analyzing data requirements.
  • Enables process improvement and/or reengineering.
  • Ensures financial data, all banking information and cash, as well as other assets, are accounted for by promoting and enforcing University internal controls and maintaining appropriate security access. Implements operational best practices. Ensures all applicable projects, records, reporting and financial activities remain in compliance with legal, regulatory, governmental and/or investor requirements.
  • Creates, maintains, manages, and analyzes school level financial allocations for the Medical School. Provides clear and effective reporting to Medical School leadership through financial allocations which accurately execute various School objectives. Assesses and corrects any errors, as encountered. Works with various stakeholders to remediate them, and re-analyzes corrections as needed.
  • On monthly, quarterly, and yearly basis, oversees the analysis and validation of the results of the School Level, Medical School financial allocations.
  • On a daily basis, monitors the Epic – Workday Integration, assesses any errors, works with various stakeholders to remediate them, and re-analyzes corrections as needed.
  • On a monthly basis, analyzes the results of the Epic – Workday Integration
  • On a yearly basis, coordinates with all clinical departments to review and update the financial integration mappings
  • Leads and manages the use of software development tools to design, develop, maintain and document new and existing models, databases and business applications; implement and maintain complex business rules and logic used in various systems. Consults with users and business analysts to determine system configuration and design, while coordinating activities of the project work utilizing project management skills.
  • Manages and/or co-manages various departmental projects in the following areas: reporting (external and internal), budgeting, analysis, accounting system initiatives, internal controls, process improvements, information retrieval and data integrity; incorporate data and ideas in either formal or informal reports, presenting solutions to issues or problems. Projects include full project management lifecycles (scope, definition, requirements, design, development, documentation, testing, implementation, debugging and training).
  • Other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in Workday and/or Adaptive.
  • Prior experience in higher education.
  • Advanced Access or related database knowledge.
  • Proficient in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Tableau
  • Master of Business Administrations, Certified Public Accountant a plus.
  • Proficient in Excel, with strong background in Macros and Pivot Tables and Word.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications (written and verbal) skills.
  • A self-motivated individual driven by challenge with the ability to work independently.
  • Capacity for managing multiple projects and priorities. 
  • Activity attempts to influence events originates ideas and takes action.
  • Ability to meet deadlines with varying degrees of pressure.
  • Ability to handle confidential information.

  • Ability to properly assess pertinent data and develop a framework for effective and practical solutions to complex issues.

  • Strong project management skills.
  • Ability to manage financial system projects, set priorities and goals, monitor performance against goals and standards and ensure successful project implementation.
  • Knowledge of internal controls.
  • Ability to streamline/automate transaction processing and recording.
  • Ability to work extra hours and recognize the need to do so.


Required Qualifications

  • An undergraduate degree in accounting or MIS or four years or more of experience in financial systems analysis, administration and reporting with IBM Cognos or other business intelligence tools and/or budgeting software, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong knowledge of financial data and related analysis.
  • Extensive experience in cube/database design and excellent PC skills (Excel, Access, Word).
  • Database experience, (Access, DB2, SQR or SQL a plus).

Salary Range
$63,900.00 - $109,100.00 / Annually

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
