The Senior Financial Operations Specialist serves as a team member within Student Life Financial Management. This position provides direct fiscal and administrative support, which is vital for effective business operations within assigned departments within the Office of Student Life. Work performed in this role will primarily support the following Student Life units: Events and Conferences, Sponsorship, and the annual Buck-I-Frenzy event.

The Senior Financial Operations Specialist completes accounting processes and auditing functions, performs routine and ad-hoc trend analysis, forecasting, budgeting, reporting, and oversees general ledger and payroll accounting and maintenance activities. Serving as a key business partner, this role is responsible for supporting a year-round budgeting process including identification of resource efficiencies and priorities and identifying and implementing opportunities for business process improvements for supported departments. To achieve operational excellence, the Senior Financial Operations Specialist also works with leadership of assigned departments on the development and monitoring of key performance goals in all financial operations.

This role also reviews and authorizes purchases and all routine operational transactions, reviews transaction and travel documents to ensure proper procedures are followed and all transactions are policy compliant, and trains and advises staff on university and Student Life purchasing procedures including the navigation and use of Workday. Creates invoices for Sponsorship and Buck-I-Frenzy agreements, maintains accounts receivable and liability aging reports, and serves as main point of contact for financial responsibilities within the Event Management System (EMS) for billing, collections, and reporting. Working collaboratively with Events & Conferences team members, serves as an advisor to resolve issues with EMS data or customer invoices and payments. Utilizes and helps maintain shared email account with other members of the team to correspond with clients. Prepares, analyzes, interprets, and presents data for special projects and ad hoc reporting. Reviews Sponsorship and Buck-I-Frenzy contracts for completeness and accuracy, obtains signatures utilizing DocuSign and OnBase Contract Portal and maintains organized electronic files.

Provides oversight and coordination for daily check and credit card operations for all operations supported by the business office and may assist with day of event payment collection as needed. Acts as departments change fund custodian. Prepares deposits and processes credit card entries. Hires, onboards, trains, develops, and supervises student staff, including providing continual task assignments, holding regular performance management conversations, and reviewing and approving student employee timekeeping. Participates in Student Life and University committees as appointed. May be required to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.

Minimum Education Required:

Bachelor's Level Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience

Additional Education Desired: Master's Degree

Required Qualifications

Required: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field

At least 4 years relevant experience required

Knowledge of accounting principles and applications

Experience with organizational budgets, accounting systems, reporting and analysis

Excellent verbal/written communication skills

Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Suite Products, especially Excel

Desired:

4-8 years relevant experience

Prior work experience in Higher Education and/or Student Affairs

Working knowledge of Workday

Working knowledge of EMS and/or StarRez reservation and event/space management systems

Working knowledge of Tableau Server reporting


Additional Information:

Salary Range: $58,100 to $77,450

The offer for this position will fall within this range based on internal equity, the unit’s available budget, and the candidate’s qualifications.
