The Mechanical, Aerospace, and Biomedical Engineering department in the Tickle College of Engineering located on the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK) campus, is seeking a Senior Financial Associate interested in working in a team environment supporting the Governor’s Chair Professor, Dr. Uday Vaidya. Reporting to Dr. Vaidya, the Senior Financial Associate performs financial, human resources, and administrative functions of the unit. This position represents the unit in a professional manner often working with individuals and organizations external to the university. This position will provide guidance for internal transfer transactions, manage the effort certification processes, and evaluate future payroll costs for sponsored projects through reports, process fiscal transactions, work directly with the Office of Sponsored Projects and Financial Management Compliance for pre and post-award management, and prepare data analysis for financial, academic, and HR transactions. This position also serves as the hiring manager and ensures the processing and approval of all personnel hiring documents, ensures and facilitates proper I-9 compliance and renewals for visas, occasionally assists with departmental events, oversees payroll reconciliation, and assists with managing faculty/staff searches as well as faculty development leave and promotion & tenure.

 



Qualifications

 

Required Education and Experience:

 

• A high school diploma or GED with 4 or more years of experience in accounting and/or HR experience or an Associate’s degree in a field related to business, HR Management, or a degree related to the position’s duties with 2 or more years of accounting and/or HR experience.

 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Knowledge of basic accounting principles.

• Excellent communication, customer service and organization skills.

• Ability to multi-task and work independently.

• Ability to prioritize a heavy workload.

• Excellent organizational and time-management skills.

• Ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks based on needs of others and with time-sensitive deadlines.

• Ability to work autonomously as well as within a team environment.

• Sound interpersonal and communication skills.

• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.

 

Preferred Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in a field related to business, HR Management, or a degree related to the position’s duties with any accounting and or HR experience.

• Experience in an academic environment.

• Experience hiring foreign nationals and communicating with non-native English speakers.

• Human resources specific experience related to recruiting, hiring or employee relations.

 

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Knowledge of State and federal contracts and grant financial requirements.

• Working knowledge of UT fiscal and HR policies and procedures.

• Knowledge of financial / personnel management applications such as SAP/IRIS.

• Knowledge of personnel maintenance processes incl. hiring, I-9 e-verification, and USCIS (visa) processes.
