Reporting to the business manager, the Financial Associate performs financial, human resources, and administrative functions of the unit. This position represents the unit in a professional manner working with individuals and organizations both internal and external to the university. This position will handle deposits, department procurement, travel processes, effort certification processes, reconciliation of ledgers, and process fiscal transactions. Occasionally work directly with the Office of Sponsored Projects and Financial Management Compliance for pre and post award management, and process financial, academic, and HR transactions. This position ensures the processing and approval of personnel hiring documents and ensures and facilitates proper I-9 compliance and renewals for visas. Occasionally coordinate departmental events.

 



Qualifications

• Knowledge of basic accounting principles.

• Ability to prioritize a heavy work load.

• Excellent organizational and time-management skills.

• Ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks based on needs of others and with time-sensitive deadlines.

• Ability to work autonomously as well as within a team environment.

• Sound interpersonal and communication skills.

• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.

Required Education and Experience:

• A high school diploma or GED with 4 or more years of experience in accounting and/or HR experience or an Associate’s degree in a field related to business, HR Management, or a degree related to the position’s duties with 2 or more years of accounting and/or HR experience.

Preferred Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in a field related to business, HR Management, or a degree related to the position’s duties with any accounting and or HR experience.

• Experience in an academic environment.

• Experience hiring foreign nationals and communicating with non-native English speakers.

• Human resources specific experience related to recruiting, hiring or employee relations.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Knowledge of State and federal contract and grant financial requirements.

• Working knowledge of UT fiscal and HR policies and procedures.

• Knowledge of financial / personnel management applications such as SAP/IRIS.

• Knowledge of personnel maintenance processes incl. hiring, I-9 e-verification, and USCIS (visa) processes.
