Job Description:

SUNY Maritime College is seeking a highly analytical, team oriented and student centered leader who is committed to excellence in customer service.  Under the general supervision of the Associate Director of Business Services, the Senior Financial Analyst  is expected to work independently to facilitate the achievement of the institution's strategic goals. The role will interact frequently with faculty and staff from various departments, and is expected to actively participate in the formulation and implementation of policies and procedures with a cross departmental reach, while significantly impacting the financial operations of the College. Furthermore, the analyst is expected to monitor, analyze and provide meaningful reports of all the institution's financial activities including state operating, dormitory and capital funds. 

Position Duties

  • Perform Trial Balance analytical review and investigate fluctuation
  •  Preparation of bank reconciliations
  • Assist in the preparation of quarterly and year-end reports
  • Provide accurate and timely reports for various reconciliations and analysis
  • Prepare and enter journal entries in Banner
  • Understand the relationship between the various Banner modules (Financial Aid, Student Accounts and Finance) and ensure consistency of records
  • Update Banner records and make properly documented changes to the rule classes, detailed codes, revenue classes and IFR codes
  • Reconcile Banner to SUNY reports and make the required adjustments on a monthly basis
  • Address timely any inconsistencies encountered in the accounting records while assessing their  impact on other units of the College (Financial Aid, Student Accounts, Budget Office)
  • Prepare and manage the annual campus capital and operational budgets; support Management to ensure all budgets align with campus leadership directives. Assure financial plans are consistent with organizational goals.
  • Prepare forecast reports and variance analysis
  • Prepare ad-hoc financial reports
  • Assist in resource allocation by developing, analyzing, and executing
  • Analyze key business processes to identify efficiencies and cost savings opportunities
  • Responsible for the development of new and the improvement of existing operational procedures in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles
  • Advise senior staff on continuous quality improvement of processes and controls and help create and update financial guidelines
  • Participate in the on-going review of technology enhancements and software upgrades
  • Oversee quality assurance and finance compliance with government, accreditation, and institutional policies
  • Participate in special projects related to the finance branch to develop innovative solutions to emerging administrative issues
  • Assist with filing of grant applications, preparation of grant budgets
  • Assist with monitoring of awards and prepare payment and request for grants' expenses
  • Assist with preparation of grant reports and submits them to appropriate parties by required deadlines.
  • Help in cross training of other members of the Business office staff

Requirements:

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree required with a preferred concentration in Business, Accounting, Higher Education Administration or Finance
  • Minimum 2 -5  years of experience in accounting and budgeting
  • Strong organizational, analytical, communication, and problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and complete multiple work assignments with frequent interruptions
  • Excellent proficiency in Excel and Power Point
  • Dedicated commitment to Customer Service

Preferred Qualifications

  • A Master's degree in Business, Accounting, Higher Education Administration or Finance
  • Certified Public Accountant
  • 3-5 years Accounting and Financial analytical experience
  • State University of New York budget or accounting experience
  • Higher education or non-profit organization experience


Additional Information:

Classification/Salary Range: The Senior Financial Analyst is a United University Professions (UUP) position.  The anticipated salary range for the position is $65,000 - $75,000 annually, with an outstanding benefits package. Salary will commensurate with qualifications and experience.
