What we want

The Senior Financial Analyst I, under direction, assists in the management and deployment of the university budget. Coordinates legislative analysis, budget preparation, and the forecast of capital assets and operating costs. Develops financial and statistical models, serves as consultant to campus departments, and provides analysis and reports. Provides budget training.

 

What you need to know

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or management information systems (MIS).

  • Six years of progressively responsible experience performing business administration, budgeting, financial management, and financial analysis (including financial projections or cost/rate analysis).

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of business intelligence software which offers comprehensive reporting, analysis, and data visualization.

  • Knowledge and experience applying Financial and Cost accounting principles and concepts. 

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both interpersonally and in writing.

  • Computer skills using word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and other office or accounting software.

  • Verbal and written communication skills.

  • Analytical and organizational skills.

  • Ability to work with large data sets.

  • Must be able to work in a collaborative team environment.

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others. 

  • Must have strong interpersonal skills. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in accounting, finance, or relevant field.

  • Certified Public Accountant.

  • Accounting experience with state, federal, or nonprofit business accounting systems and fiscal procedures.

  • Experience with cost accounting for Information Technology services, and experience developing rates for Information Technology services. 

  • Knowledge of how to extract and process data from other systems using APIs or data file downloads.

Essential Duties/Tasks

Rate and Showback Calculations:

  • Establishes and refines service rate calculations for internal IT services based on usage, resource allocation, and service levels.

  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive show back framework and reporting process to transparently communicate IT costs, resource consumption, and variations from plans to various departments.

  • Collaborates with department heads to provide cost transparency and promote informed decision-making regarding IT services.

Financial Analysis:

  • Conduct in-depth financial analysis, including budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis, with a focus on cost attribution for IT services.

  • Monitor and evaluate financial performance, identifying trends, opportunities, and potential risks in relation to show back and rate calculations.

  • Provide recommendations to optimize cost-efficiency and resource allocation for IT services.

  • Assists in the management and deployment of the budget. 

Financial Reporting, Modeling, Consulting:

  • Coordinates the preparation of comprehensive proprietary based financial reports for the overall service center and for each of the lines of business in the service center.

  • Develops financial models to support the strategic goals of Technology Services. 

  • Consults on and coordinates the development of budget request and serves as an internal consultant to the lines of business in the service center. 

  • Responsible for major presentations related to the service center performance and for the communication of rate approvals and changes.

Transfer Pricing and Internal Billing Strategies:

  • Develops and implements transfer pricing strategies for cross-departmental services and resources, ensuring equitable cost distribution.

  • Monitors internal billing processes, ensuring accuracy, and resolving any discrepancies. Collaborates with stakeholders to establish and refine internal billing methodologies and policies.

Data Management:                                                          

  • Develops and maintains comprehensive databases and reporting tools for financial and IT data, including show back and rate calculation data.

  • Generates reports and visualizations to communicate insights to stakeholders.

  • Ensures data accuracy, integrity, and security.

Business Process Improvement & Other Duties:                                                                                        

  • Work closely with department heads to understand their IT and financial needs, especially related to show back and internal billing.

  • Recommends and implements process improvements and automation solutions for cost transparency and billing accuracy.

  • Streamlines workflows and enhances productivity across the institution.

  • Provides budget training. Develops presentations for communicating budget and other financial information to various audiences.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
