JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

More than perhaps any other factor, the degree to which a university attracts and retains qualified students determines the success or failure of that institution. The Enrollment Management (EM) division is a key player in this activity and has a profound effect on the institution’s success. The division is committed to developing a data-informed, forward-looking, comprehensive enrollment strategy that enables the institution to pursue strategic goals in an integrated and intentional manner.

Penn State's Enrollment Management division is seeking a Senior Enrollment Analytics Analyst to lead data analytics functions for a newly created Enrollment Analytics and Strategic Insights Unit that is charged with aggregating and leveraging data to fuel and frame enrollment policy, practice, and strategy implementation across the entirety of the student lifecycle. Such analysis contributes to efforts to elevate and enhance the market position and profile of the institution through the development and implementation of a more data-informed approach to marketing, recruitment, and retention strategy, and practice.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Leverage data management, analysis, and visualization skills to develop and standardize meaningful, user-friendly reports and dashboards for monitoring key enrollment outcomes. This includes reports and dashboards addressing market position, market profile, admissions, enrollment, credit hour production, net tuition revenue; as well as student progression, persistence, retention and graduation metrics

  • Continually refine the availability and quality of enrollment information for decision making using both third-party, as well, as internal data

  • Design trusted data repository of enrollment related data to reduce data disparities and improve staff productivity and performance through the development of self-service tools designed to provide access to relevant insights

  • Coach and manages the EM Analytics and Strategic Insights team to include development of a comprehensive EM research agenda and accompanying research calendar production and distribution of enrollment cycle reports designed to inform decision making and resource allocation.

  • Build queries and process to extract and aggregate data from various sources, including student database and CRM systems, other University offices, the University data warehouse, as well as external agencies and institutions.

  • Monitor and clean large data sets to ensure reporting efficiency and accuracy. Collaborate with internal partners to identify, investigate, and resolve data quality issues.

  • Analyze quantitative and qualitative data to inform decision-making. Discover and communicate significant patterns, trends, and stories with enrollment data; provide recommendations based on analysis.

  • Utilize predictive modeling across the enrollment lifecycle to assist leadership and operational staff with planning, resource allocation and operational decisions. Provide actionable intelligence to key internal stakeholders on the availability and use of models to achieve desired enrollment outcomes

The individual in this position must understand the uses of student information within a university setting and work to enhance the quality and utility of the data produced from various systems. Strong technical and interpersonal skills are essential, as well as the ability to think critically and analytically, work independently and handle multiple tasks. The ability to distill and convey findings clearly is a critical component of the work. The successful candidate must be able to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

We are seeking candidates with the following qualifications:

  • This position will be filled either at the Advanced or Senior level. Minimally requires a Bachelor's degree and 3 years of related experience or combination of education and experience for the Advanced level. Additional education and or experience required for higher level jobs.

  • At least 3 years of demonstrated proficiency in data analysis, predictive modeling, data visualization, and reporting, with experience cleaning and manipulating large, complex datasets.

  • Advanced practical experience with BI and data analysis software (Tableau, PowerBI, SAS, SPSS, Excel, etc.) required. Proficiency in querying data stored in relational databases strongly preferred. Extended SAS programming experience is a plus.

  • Demonstrated understanding of data structures and common methods of data extraction and transformation.

  • Experience with relational databases required; student information systems and customer relationship systems a plus.

  • Ability to analyze data, recognize patterns, and provide informed recommendations to support decision making.

  • Strong technical, organizational, and interpersonal skills are essential, as well as the ability to think critically, work independently and collaboratively; and solve problems creatively.

  • Excellent data visualization, report preparation, and written communication skills; ability to summarize and present analytic findings in ways that are accessible to non-technical audiences.

  • Demonstrated curiosity and persistence in navigating technical challenges.

  • Understanding of, or interest in, higher education enrollment management a plus.

The pay range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$86,300.00 - $145,700.00
