Purpose

To provide the technical support necessary to maintain and grow Dr. Oguzhan Bayrak's research program within and outside of the Concrete Bridge Engineering Institute (CBEI) at Ferguson Structural Engineering Laboratory (FSEL). Working under the supervision of Dr. Bayrak and in close cooperation with FSEL students and staff on implementation of research goals.


Responsibilities

  • Detail test programs with due consideration to facility, equipment, manpower and budgetary limitations. Develop test specifications and procedures, design test fixtures and procure necessary materials and equipment. Develop instrumentation schemes and design custom fixtures.

  • Coordinate the fabrication of test and instrumentation fixtures. Coordinate fabrication of specimens and mechanical testing of material samples. Execute and/or direct resting of specimens, document observations and measurements.

  • Analyze observation and measurements to identify significant correlations and draw conclusions. Prepare presentations and other technical documentation to summarize significant research findings. Draft formal report for submission to project sponsor.

  • Research and develop problem statements for consideration of government-sponsored research programs. Review RFP technical requirements, conduct preliminary literature review and conceptualize project work plan. Draft, or participate in the development of, preliminary proposals such as budget, schedule, etc.


Required Qualifications

B.S. degree in Civil Engineering. Twenty (20) years of experience in bridge construction and/or bridge construction inspection. Experience with or formal education in the behavior of reinforced and prestressed concrete structures. Ten (10) years of project management and/or supervisory experience.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.


Preferred Qualifications

Experience in large-scale experimental research and technical writing. Professional Engineer (PE)


Salary Range

$130,000 + depending on qualifications
