The Electronics and Photonic Systems (EPS) Department delivers novel solutions to important defense problems.  We are a growing, diverse team of software and hardware engineers who specialize in developing real-time systems to meet the rigorous demands of Navy mission requirements.  We are looking for exceptional software engineers willing to join the collaboration between academia, industry, and the government to advance the Navy’s technological capabilities.

We are seeking a full-time Senior Electrical Engineer to join the team.  This position has a salary range of $108,000 to $156,000 per year ($9,000-$13,000 monthly), along with great employment benefits and competitive total compensation incentives.

The Position:
We are seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer with Analog, Digital, and Power Electronics experience to work on cutting-edge applied ocean projects for a diverse set of customers and applications.  The successful candidate will be part of an integrated engineering team that designs, builds, installs, operates, and maintains complex electrical/mechanical systems to solve challenging problems in novel ways.  This position will be responsible for the design, testing, and production of new electronics systems including low-noise acoustic data collection systems, high-power acoustic amplifiers, and control electronics in highly integrated ocean instrument packages.  The incumbent selected will be responsible for analyzing requirements, presenting material at formal design reviews, and documenting designed systems.

Senior Electrical Engineer Responsibilities:
As a Senior Electrical Engineer in the EPS team, your responsibilities will include:

• Directs, plans, and manages all electrical engineering deliverables.
• Works closely with the sponsor and APL Leadership on the scope of work, oversight, and reporting.
• Approaches novel assignments and applies sophisticated research techniques, networks, and resources, moving the project forward from inception to execution.
• Work on extremely complex research endeavors that result in the creation of new concepts, applications, designs, or new areas of research.
• Design complex circuit boards using the Altium software suite.
• Prepare and analyze detailed electrical power budgets.
• Identify and document electrical component requirements and specifications.
• In collaboration with the Program Manager, support and manage at-sea installation, operation, maintenance, repair, and recovery of systems.

General Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related engineering field and 10 or more years of experience in a related engineering field, including experience with:
• US Citizenship.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Security clearance.
• Experience designing low-noise data acquisition systems.
• Proficient in analog electronics design both signals and power systems.
• Experience in computer system design
• Experience with the Linux operating system
• Experience in networking design and configuration
• Ability to plan and organize technical projects.
• Ability to participate in ship-based fieldwork.
• Demonstrated excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Demonstrated organizational skills, self-motivation, flexibility, and the ability to thrive in a creative, entrepreneurial environment.

•    US Citizenship.
•    Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Security clearance

*Incumbent will be required to submit for a Department of Defense Secret-level security clearance within the first 3-6 months of employment, and once granted must maintain eligibility to hold a Secret-level clearance. *

The person hired into this position must be a U.S. citizen and successfully obtain and continue to maintain a Department of Defense (DOD) Personnel Security Clearance. Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

While not required, you’ll stand out if you have:
• Experience with microcontroller interface design and programming in assembly and C.
• Experience with high-voltage power transmission systems.
• Experience with low-power design techniques.
• Experience with high-speed optical network interface design.
