Job Summary

This position will be responsible for electrical engineering related planning, design, installation, review, commissioning and project administration activities for University facilities and infrastructure.

Areas of focus include existing condition assessments, recommendations for improvement, designs including equipment recommendations, and limited project management. Projects will primarily be related to building renovation & new construction as well as campus power distribution infrastructure. In addition, the position will work on control related projects including building automation systems, equipment controls and instrumentation including equipment selection and installation as well as programming sequences for control systems.

This position will be responsible for University facilities electrical design review for electrical construction, renovation, infrastructure, equipment and distribution systems and projects.

This position conducts in-person, telephone and oral communications with all levels of the University community and a wide spectrum of outside agencies including consultants and vendors (architects, engineers, craft personnel, contractors, suppliers, etc.).


Additional Information

This position collaborates and interacts regularly with staff from Ancillary Facilities Operations, Facilities Management, Facilities Planning, Design and Construction, Financial Services, the Office of Energy Management, and Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S).


Salary Rate / Pay Rate

$110,000 - $130,000


Required Qualifications

1. Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an approved College of Engineering.
2. Certificate of registration as a Registered Professional Engineer from the Illinois Department of Registration and Education.


Preferred Qualifications

1. Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an approved College of Engineering.
2. Five to seven years of responsible and successful experience in major planning and/or construction project management for a large University, Enterprise or organization involving electrical engineering.
3. Experience working with and contributing to Corporate or Enterprise Design Standards and/or Guidelines.
4. Knowledge and experience with building and equipment control systems, lighting systems, and power distribution including low, medium and high voltage power.
5. Knowledge and experience with BIM, Revit, Autocad, MS Project and other applicable engineering and energy software programs
6. 2 or more years work experience in Engineering Consulting Firm.
7. Proficient in Microsoft Office programs Excel and Word as well as Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) programming.


Work Hours

Generally Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm with occasional weekend and evening hours as business needs dictate
